FYI: The Great American Backyard Campout is coming – Saturday, June 28th, to be exact. Sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation, it is designed to encourage families to get back to nature. The details are here, as well as great tips for camping.
On the website, there is an opportunity to register your site. For privacy reasons, I would opt out of that, particularly if you were camping in your own backyard. Please use wisdom and discretion.
The site does offer links to nearby campsites if your backyard is not conducive to sleeping under the stars. The point is to get outside with your family.
I think a Backyard Campout is a great concept. Sometimes, it takes a little outside motivation to get me moving. But, camping out back can be just as fun as traveling hundreds of miles to sleep outside (and a lot less work!) Plus, bathrooms and the comforts of home aren’t too far away.
