Love your Peas in a pod article. I have three kids in one very small room. It works for now. I have to be pretty organized and there are times it is a mess. We have the rule that each of their beds is their own and no one else is allowed on it unless invited. That gives them some personal space. I always thought I would have my kids share a room…that is what I did growing up. The room my kids share now is VERY VERY small and I never thought I would have 3 in a room that size but it works. After living here my perspective has changed so much. I hear people (mostly my VA friends) saying they need to move because they have outgrown their house and really when you get down to it they don’t NEED to move they WANT to move. Most my friends here have 2-4 kids per room. The reality is that most of us can make due in smaller places and even our small dwellings are so much bigger than the rest of the world. We are blessed. And I am sure my NYC friends laugh when I say we are tightly squeezed in our house……what they would give for what by my old VA standards would be tiny.

Anyhow, I really liked your article and I know as my kids get older those tips are going to come in handy. PS on the art and treasure thing I just saw this really cool idea where they scanned in the kids art then used the images on a poster. They were small size images across and down. It looked like modern art. Just beautiful!!! I thought it was a really creative way to keep those pieces of artwork in a small space in a visually pleasing way. Someday the kids could take that framed poster and have it in their house too. It was stunning.

Bethany, thanks for sharing your perspective on tight quarters. We are planning to move back to SO Cal and even though I have four boys in one room, it’s a BIG room. I know we would be in for some adjustments, esp since our house is 2500+ sq ft. Yikes, that’s big!

Loved the poster idea! Thanks for the tip!

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."
