OAMC: Day Four

It is finished.

And I am so glad. Not only do I have a freezer full of meals freeing me from cooking, but I also don’t have to do a lot of shopping over the next 4-5 weeks. Yeah!

Don’t get me wrong. I love to shop. Especially groceries. After all, I am the Grocery Geek.

But, sometimes it’s just hard to say NO. Since I’ve spent the bulk of my food budget for the month, it’s better to stay out of the stores. And you know what? The deals at my local grocery stores aren’t that great this week, anyway. Great time to take a break.

I am sure I’ll be spouting off some more about the benefits of Once-A-Month Cooking over the coming weeks as I put my feet up and enjoy several weeks’ off from cooking.

Here is what’s on hold in my deep freeze:

3 Black Bean Lasagnas (recipe to follow)
3 Black Bean Pies
4 dinner portions of Taco Soup
5 dinner portions of meatballs
8 containers of pasta sauce
2 pans of Italian sausages and sauce
3 pans of Lawnmower Taco
3 Meat, Cheese, and Spinach Lasagna
3 pans of Curried Chicken and Broccoli Casserole
3 pans of Chicken Enchilada Casserole
3 meals of Chicken Packets

This totals about 40 meals! (depending on if I use the pasta sauce with the meatballs or not.) Considering leftovers, eating out on occasion, and BBQing, I would say that the next 5-6 weeks are covered. Hallelujah!

  1. Good for you!! My due date is in 19 days but I’m already WAY too miserable to attempt OAMC. :) Maybe after we settle into a nice routine.

I would love to see your black bean pie recipe, too. My husband and I frequently eat black bean lasagna and black bean soup but I’ve never heard of black bean pie. Sounds yummy!

    Blessings to all of you!

Congratulations on getting it all done!

  3. Wow, you deserve a pat in the back!

The chicken packets are one of my hubby’s absolute favorites.

    I’m super impressed.

And I still argue that you’re Wonder Woman. ;)

Loved your TV debut tonight. You did super!!

Oh wait, was I not supposed to mention that on your public blog?! :)

    Haha, CP!

Folks, don’t get too excited. I was on Fox News tonight for a segment they did on gadgets that save you money. I got all of five seconds of fame out of that one. I guess I still have 14 minutes and 55 seconds left to cash in at a later date.

FishBoy4 looked very cute, though, eating his peanut butter cracker.

If they post it on their site, I’ll share. But, I doubt they will.

PS I am not SuperWoman. I prefer Elastigirl much more. ;)

Would you discuss some of the basics of OAMC? I’d really like to get some meals put up, but this is what I don’t know:
    1) How to wrap everything and store it in the freezer so it doesn’t get freezer burn

    2) How to reheat the meals when I’m ready for them
    Thanks!!!!

    This is a great idea!

Today is my first time reading your blog. I’m not sure I follow exactly what you are doing ~ to you grocery shop for almost everything once a month and run into the store for little odds and ends (bread/milk) during the month?

Your recipe list looks great. Did you happen to track how much money you spent for the ingredients? No worries if you didn’t. Have a great day!
