I love to order gifts from Amazon. It is so easy to click a few clicks and sit back, knowing that they’re going to do all the work. Sure beats shopping, scrounging up a mailing envelope, packaging said gift, loading up the kids, and then listening to cries of, “You mean we have to go in?”
(They prefer when I’m mailing envelopes, so we can just drive by the box.)
My problem, however, with online ordering is that I sometimes forget to plan ahead. Many times, I’ve found myself paying extra for express shipping. Bummer.
Awhile ago I tried Amazon Prime. It provides free 2-day shipping. And it has saved my bacon on more than one occasion. (It has also been really helpful in ordering school books and getting them quickly.)
Right now you can get a free 2 week trial for unlimited 2-day shipping and a drastically reduced rate on overnight rush jobs. After the 2 week trial, there is a yearly fee which isn’t bad if you order a lot. If you don’t, just make sure you make adjustments to your account if you don’t want to be automatically “renewed” for a full year.
I don’t go for many convenience services, but I really liked this one.

We had a free trial last year. We needed a portable DVD player for a long road trip for our 2-year old. We don’t live in an area where they sell things like that, so it was down to the wire and I ordered it online with the overnight shipping. It arrived on my door less than 24 hours after I ordered it. It was very cool!
I love Amazon Prime. And the best part is that my mom bought the subscription and she was able to share it with one other member – me! At first we thought you had to have it shipped to the same address (so my mom’s address) but recently I was ordering something large and had it shipped to my house and it was still free.
Between the two of us we order a lot of stuff (we homeschool and like shopping online) so it’s well worth the $79 or whatever it is.
