Fresh Guacamole: It’s a Fine Thing!

Lately, we’ve scored major big time in the avocado department. Not only have they been a great deal ($0.49 each), but they’ve also been beautiful, creamy, and delicious. It was almost a shame to turn some into guacamole. But, we like our avo dip. So, I did.

Years ago, FishPapa had a run in with bad guacamole – I guess the cook had stirred in mayo or sour cream or something.

Ummm, no.

Fresh guac needs to be just that – fresh! And good, fresh guacamole is super simple to make.

The Non-recipe Guacamole Recipe

The quick, quick way is to mash an avocado, squeeze in the juice of half a lemon, sprinkle with salt, and stir in a spoonful or two of your favorite salsa. Taste and adjust seasonings to suit your tastes. Want to kick up the spice? Stir in some chopped jalapeno or tabasco. It’s that simple.

What a fine thing!

Thanks for the great recipe and here is one back to you. Mix up a big green salad. Take some of that guacamole and mix it into some ranch dressing and put it on the salad and add tortilla strip. My family loves this kind of salad.

  4. We have just started making fresh guac. Oh how we love it. I use lime in ours. I may need to make some tonight because this has me craving it! Thanks!!

Oh, that looks delicious! Most of the guacamole you run into here in Indiana looks nothing like that… looks like I’ll have to make my own. Yum! (Might go with Zimms Zoo’s lime juice though… I’m a lime-y kind of gal!)

  6. Roberta Anne, good idea. I’ve always wanted to try avo dressing. Sounds yummy.

    Amy, glad you’re feeling better!

ZZ and JL, yes, lime is better — and more traditional — but lemon is what I usually have on hand — from my dad’s tree! But, limes were on sale this week, so we actually have those as well. Thanks for the reminder.

  7. I’ve been curious the whether guacamole is made traditionally with lemon juice or lime juice….or is it a preference thing? Most recipes I see is with lime, and that’s how I make it, but I hate buying lime just for guacamole! Lemons would be used much faster in my house!
