Streamline Your Morning Beauty Routine

Time is a valuable, nonrenewable resource. And the way my life is going these days, I need to make the most of every moment. That means I got to get in and out as quickly as possible. Getting in and out of the grocery store super fast means going alone or with as few children as possible. Getting in and out of the kitchen without a lot of hassle entails preparing a bunch of meals to stash in the freezer.

The same goes for my morning “primping” time. I am no fashionista. But, I want to look presentable and avoid the frump as much as I can. I just don’t have a lot of time to spend on “prettifying.” I need to get in and out of the bathroom in short order. And that means using products and methods that will speed up the process.

Here are some tricks that help me streamline my morning primping.

** Make toiletries easy to access. Keep all your beauty aids in one place. I’ve got a large basket that holds brushes, combs, toothpaste, cleanser, etc. (Yes, that’s the very same hairpick from high school to go with the permed hair. It’s lasted 20 years!)

The basket is large enough to hold everything without being crowded. I can easily find what I need – no need to rummage around. Putting things away means just tossing it back in the basket.

** Find an efficient order of actions. Yes, this is going to sound like the dad in the classic Cheaper by the Dozen. I can still see him demonstrating to the high school teachers how to bathe most efficiently. Anyway, find what works for you that keeps your wash-up time to the minimum. I find that washing my face in the shower makes me more likely to actually wash my face, so I keep a bottle of facial cleanser there. The same goes for shaving.

** Use products that save you time. There’s no shortage of short-cut toiletries: fast drying shampoo, 2-in-1 shampoo/conditioner, facial cleansing cloths, Intuition razors that have the shaving lotion built in. Keep an eye out for the product that will help you. Chances are you’ll find coupons and sales that will help you get what you want for a few pennies.

  1. I have facial soap and shaving supplies in my shower to for Hubby and myself. We too are more likely to actually was our face in the shower, and we both always shave in the shower… he with a fogless mirror.
I don’t use 2-in-1 shampoos, my hair needs a little more conditioner and Hubby doesn’t use it… so doesn’t work for us.
My system is much like yours… I have a basket w/a lid on the counter with toothpaste, saline solution, etc and we each get a drawer in the sink cabinet for deoderant, glasses, and my makeup.
    Thanks for sharing!

My biggest time saving trick is not washing my hair every day. Instead I was, skip two days, then wash again. Especially since I live in a dry area, I don't need too – too much static. It's better for your hair anyway. The days I don't wash, I use a water spray bottle and touch up sections w/ that & the hair dryer and a round brush. Also, it saves $ (less styling products, water, and shampoo/conditioner used). If you have greasy hair it can take time for your scalp to adjust, so I recommend first starting with just every other day and working up to every two days if you want. My hair is so much healthier now.

My other best tip is that my kids love to play in the bath together (4 yrs and 18 months). If they are up before I've gotten ready I let them play in the bath next to our standing shower (clear glass so I can see them). I turn the water on really low so it doesn't fill up too fast. Often my 18 month daughter will play in the bath for 45 minutes. This gives me time to shower, do hair, makeup and get dressed.

  3. Beauty Routine-what’s that? On a good day, I can have a shower (or at least brush my hair), brush teeth, put on some lipgloss, concealer, and mascara. On a bad day, well I just brush my teeth. That’s non-negotiable.

  4. Some of my eco-minded friends found a waterproof timer that they keep in their shower. They’ve found that, with the little froggie keeping time, they can do everything they need to do in four minutes. They plan on using it with their kids too! Streamlined in a big way!

  5. Great article! The beauty products samples..I found a product that gives you..
