This past week, we scored some great freebies, or almost freebies, including lots of almost free cereal. But, the highlight for the kids was probably when we “tasted the fire” and ate lunch for free from El Pollo Loco.
It was the kids’ idea.
You don’t think I’m crazy enough to take SIX kids on a Tuesday by myself just for a free lunch, do you?
Yeah, I am that crazy. But that day, it was their call. My 8 year old saw the ad and asked if we could go. They never got ready and out the door so quickly. Wisdom dictated that we got it “to go.” So, after a 10-minute wait in line – we beat the rush – we came home for a feast. (See how desperate we got after our “Eat-from-the-Pantry” Challenge?)
My favorite deal of the week was the Happy Mom tshirt I received in the mail yesterday. A special thank you goes to the reader(s) who sent an eco-active photo to Peace Love Mom and told them I sent you! I am excited to add another green shirt to my collection.
Here are some of the best deals I see this coming week:
** Have you purchased a 2009 Entertainment Book? We have bought one (or two) of these coupon books several times in the past five years, and they’ve always paid for themselves and then more. Plus, redeeming the dining coupons has been great incentive to try new restaurants that we might not otherwise have visited. In fact, we found Le Peep, our favorite KC breakfast joint, by using the Entertainment Book. Right now you can get the book for $15 with free shipping.
** I’ve mentioned before, FishBaby has eczema something fierce. We have all sorts of prescription oils and creams to treat it. But, when it is under control, we maintain her softer skin with Aveeno Daily Lotion. FishPapa, who struggles with eczema as well, loves it, too. We are brand-loyal about few things, but this is one of them. You can sign up for great Aveeno tips and deals here as well as print a $2 coupon.
** The cereal craze continues. Since I’m so stingy in my target price, we haven’t had much cereal lately. But, Kelloggs is my new BFF. Make sure you print your limit of Kelloggs cereal coupons from my Coupons.com sidebar. Then, go forth and buy lots of cereal! Here are a few stops you could make:
Target – This week’s sale ends today. Buy 5 Special K items and receive a $5 gift card in return. After sales and coupons, you should get them for $0.39/box. (Thanks, Money Saving Mom)
CVS – Select varieties for $1.88 starting Sunday. Limit 3. After coupons, you’ll pay $0.88/box. I’ve heard other prices quoted, but the ad I got in the mail yesterday says $1.88. Check your store circular to verify the price in your neighborhood.
Vons, west coast – Raisin Bran and Life cereals are 3/$5. After coupons, you’ll get them $0.66/box. Limit of one type of internet printable per transaction. There were coupons in the 4/5 newspaper, so you may be able to get a couple boxes if you have different coupons. Sale ends Tuesday night.
** Are you ready for Mother’s Day? If you’re going to make online purchases, be sure to sign up for Ebates first. You will earn cash back from all your qualifying purchases. (Gift cards don’t always count.) So far we’ve earned $40 in cash, plus a $10 Target card by clicking through Ebates’ portal.
** If you have earned Swagbucks, you might consider doing your Mother’s Day shopping through Amazon. Be aware that you can only redeem two Swagbucks prizes per day, so plan ahead. I ordered a Starbucks card just a few days ago and it came in yesterday’s meal. That in itself makes for a very Happy Mother’s Day. Can you say Freepacino?
(If you’re new to Swagbucks, it’s a search engine that operates through google. You occasionally win points for searches that you make. Points add up to prizes. Plus, you get extra points if you refer friends and family.)
** PeaceLoveMom has a great deal going. Place your order by May 4 to guarantee delivery for Mother’s Day and receive a FREE PeaceLoveMom tote bag on orders over $60. Use MothersDay09 in the coupon code at check out.
** Lastly, I have a ton of great MOM giveaways lined up for next week, including a tshirt from PLM and tons of books. So stay tuned.
