Time for MOM: Spend Time with a Friend

My friend Jessika and I have known each other for about 15 years! It’s so fun to walk through motherhood together.

“Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art… It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival.” – C. S. Lewis

It’s good for mom to get out. And I’m not talking about grocery shopping and carpool driving. Sitting with a friend and talking can be a great way to decompress, sort through your thoughts, and problem solve. And a good friend will help you do this. As my good buddy Jack says, a good friend gives value to survival. This definitely works for me to get through the rough spots.

Call up a friend this week and make plans to

  • have a Saturday morning out together
  • have lunch somewhere that doesn’t serve chicken fingers
  • take the kids to the park
  • get pedicures
  • go for coffee
  • hit the thrift stores, garage sales, and consignment shops
  • catch a chick flick
  • just talk about life

What do you love to do with the girls you love?

Me and my friend, yes now that I have kids I only have one really good friend have fun doing just about anything. I have known her for ten years and will be friend with her for the rest of my life. I think we have both had days were we need to call each other for a laugh and to lighten up the days of raising kids.

My friends and I have a Mom's Night Out once a month. We don't always all make it, but it's always so much fun. What we do ranges from dinner out, movies, game night at someone's house, potluck, dessert out, spa night getting pedicures. I look forward to it every month!

A favorite is taking the kids to the park. Our kids are at the age now where they play pretty well with us watching alongside. There are some nice moments for mom conversation. Picnic lunch and then play is so much fun.

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
