Cute idea! Each year I wrap up our Christmas book collection (same books each year) and each night we unwrap one and read it together as a family.

Funny you should post this today. I just pulled out our Christmas glasses this morning. Like Amy, the kids each receive an ornament each year (I date them, so we don't forget). I really like the ideas of having Christmas mugs for the kids. I may make that a stocking stuffer this year. I agree completely that these kind of traditions help keep our kids grounded and secure. Creating your own family traditions is very important.

Oh, I love the idea of keeping special Christmas mugs only for the season! I will have to remember that for when our little one(s?) gets old enough (needs to be born, first :P ). DH isn't a hot drink person, so it's just me that wants the occasional mug of hot chocolate, but as a kid, hot chocolate was big on the "have some daily" list :)

On Christmas Eve we read the Nativity Story and talk about it's meaning with the kids. They each open 2 gifts, new jammies and an ornament. These ornaments will one day be theirs to decorate their trees when they are on their own. We are integrating the daughter that we are adopting but have yet to meet this year with her own ornament.
