I’ve told you before how much I love my plastic dishwashing gloves. They are, indeed, a blessing from the Lord. I don’t think I’d be able to keep up with the amount of dirty pots and pans I generate each day if it weren’t for some type of hand protection. Hot water and grease-cutting soap would just wreak havoc on my delicate skin. And, there’s the “eww” factor when it comes to cold, slimy, dirty dishes….

Gloves are definitely where it’s at. However, I have lots of helpers. And my gloves have experienced fifty-two different kinds of abuse over the days and weeks. Some have worn them as footwear. But, more commonly, I find them full of water at the bottom of the sink under a few grungy dishes.

I’ve tried all sorts of solutions to keeping them dry and out of harm’s way, my most successful being to drapethem over the Snowman cookie jar. But seeing as it’s been 70 degrees lately and the Blizzard of 2010 did not reach the West Coast, the snowman had to go to storage and I found myself without a plastic glove rack. Golly.

So, imagine my surprise when I saw this:

Yellow dishwashing gloves hanging on the inside of a cupboard.

FishPapa asked me for clothespins one night. And I was too busy to wonder, WHY in the world does he need clothespins? The next morning I found my handy-dandy plastic glove holders waiting for me. They definitely work for me.

What funky trick do you have for organizing household tools?

  1. Can’t believe I hadn’t thought of this! Such an easy, smart fix. Thank you for the info 🙂

  2. I fold the backs of my gloves over to keep drips from running down my elbows and back into the gloves. (This has happened more times than I care to mention and drives me batty.) I use a couple of those 3M hooks on the cabinet beside my sink, the kind that stick on the wall, and hook the folded back part of the gloves over the hooks. This keeps them out of the way of my three-year-old and keeps them dry.

  3. Wow, what a great idea! I always hate sticking my hand into a soggy glove that hasn’t dried yet, and could never think of a way to properly drain them. Thanks for the tip!

  4. I have a over the door clear plastic shoe holder on the inside of my pantry door and I clip my gloves to one of the pockets with clothes pins. I get double duty out of the pocket because my extra pot scrubbers are inside the pocket.

  5. I’m still stuck on the 70-degree weather you’re enjoying in February!

I always wear rubber gloves, too, especially in the wintertime, but I have a little towel rod inside my cupboard door under the sink where I hang them.

    1. He used short screws, but I have no idea how he did it. If y’all need more instruction, maybe I can get him to guest post. 😉

      1. I just hot glued mine to the inside of the door… my hubby is weird about drilling holes through cabinet doors. Lol

  6. That is absolutely brilliant! Thank you, thank you, thank you Fishpapa! We have two cats that love shredding our gloves, so we can never keep them out to dry. I am definitely going to utilize this idea!

  7. I just wanted to tell you that you are my new favorite blog to read. You absolutely crack me up and everyone should have a Fishpapa like yours! I have been hooked on Money Saving Mom for about 6 months now and I am so glad to also be hooked on your blog since the Eating From the Pantry Challenge. Keep up the GREAT work!!

  8. I just started using the gloves a moth ago and have been wondering what the heck I am supposed to do with them!

Great idea…gotta love a solution that is simple and frugal.

    🙂

  9. I love that! What a great idea! And how precious it is that your man saw your need and fixed it without you even coming up with the idea for it, or asking him! Wow!

  10. This is a brilliant idea- love it! I have GOT to start wearing gloves to protect my hands. I used to be a hand model, for Heaven’s sakes. You’d think I’d take better care! Any recommendations for gloves that don’t have that stinky rubber smell to them? I have a real aversion to that…

  11. Must say I use gloves, too, and for the very same reasons. Time to hunt for some chip clips, I mean, clothes pins!

  12. my husband does all the dishes around here, so i don’t have to worry about this! (literally, all of them! unless i dirty alot of dishes in the day and need them before he’s home.) we don’t have children yet though, so when that comes things may have to change… we’ll see… but for now, i’m spoiled 🙂 and blessed!

  13. I clothes pin mine to the hood range. An over-the-door shoe holder works great for holding canisters of cleaners and supplies…keeps then out of the way and easy to find.

  14. I have tied a string above my sink in front of the kitchen window. There, I hand with clothes pins my plastic bags to dry, dish gloves, and yesterday I even hung the kids mittens to dry! (we don’t get much snow here!) My mother in law and her sister visited from Texas and they both said they were going to get a clothes live over their kitchen sink when they got home.

  15. Awesome idea Fishpapa!!!! I stopped using gloves for that very reason…..gonna have to give it a try and see if I can revive my poor fingernails!

  16. I use clothespins for mine too, though I hadn’t thought to hang them upside down… I just pin them to the window blinds for easy access! 🙂

  17. Living here in northern Indiana, we did receive some of the Blizzard of 2010, but I, unfortunately, have no Snowman cookie jar to drape my dishwashing gloves over! I have spent the past five years just trying to scoot by in the winter with sandpaper hands, waiting for the temperature and the humidity to rise in the spring. This winter, after the skin on several knuckles split open simultaneously, my husband pointed out that I should probably try gloves. So, I now have a pair. The trouble is, I also have a 2 year old. And he thinks that Mommy’s pink plastic gloves make great monster hands. I think I see clothespin glove hangers in my future, along with a lock on our cabinet under the sink…thank your hubby for the great idea for me!

  18. That’s a great idea. I always use gloves to do the dishes, too. I don’t have to share mine though. 🙂 The others who do dishes here just prefer bare hands. I’ll have to see if I can come up with something similar.
