Rainbow Vegetable Garden Giveaway from Burpee

March 22, 2010

Nutritionists tell us that a great way to have a well-rounded diet is to include all the colors of the rainbow in our diet. (No, ketchup doesn’t count for red.) But, as you browse the produce aisle, try to include all the different hues and you’ve upped the substance in your family’s diet. You know that pretty colors can entice many a picky eater to try a new food.

Another great way to encourage good eaters is to teach your peeps to garden. Our kids have always loved to plant seeds and seedlings, water the garden, and check on the harvest. And each one will at least try whatever it is we’re growing.

Burpee has developed a rainbow vegetable garden that you can grow at home with your children. What a fantastic idea!

The Rainbow Vegetable Garden includes: 9 PLANTS (1 of each)
Eggplants: Purple Rain and Crescent Moon
Peppers: The Godfather, Orange Belle II and Red Delicious
Tomatoes:Burpee’s Big Boy, Sun Gold, BushSteak and Sweet Tangerine

In this week’s giveaway, THREE LifeasMOM readers will each receive a Rainbow Vegetable Garden. How fun is that?!

Winners will have plants shipped straight to their doors at the proper planting time for their area — except for those living in Alaska, Hawaii, California, Nevada, Georgia, and Idaho. Any winners in those states will receive Burpee gift certificates. Contest will be open until Sunday, March 28 at 8 pm PST. Winners to be chosen at random.

To enter? Simply leave a comment telling us your favorite vegetable. Please make sure that you leave an email address so that I can contact you if you win.

This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to Kimberly (whiteiris717@), Nicole (nicolemartin0707@), and Kim in AZ (kanddbk@). Send me your snail mail, and I’ll get your prize shipped out. Thanks for playing everyone!

77 Erin March 22, 2010 at 5:49 pm

Current favorite veggie are (mild) peppers!!
Last year this time, my boyfriend and I turned our nose up at any vegetable raw or even cooked. You would have thought we were a bunch of 8 year olds sitting at the dinner table… Fast forward through last year to the present, we made a 8′X10′ garden plot in our yard last year which was super hard work, but the reward was so worth it. We know try to incorporate fresh veggies (and lots of colors) into each of our dinners! Unfortunately we’ve moved to a smaller place, but we’re talking about participating in our local CSA so we can still have the wonderful rewards of fresh veggies!!!! (I never thought those words would come out of my mouth…)

78 kelly March 22, 2010 at 5:53 pm

I love vegetables. I love potatoes and would have to say that they are my favorite vegetable. Followed by asparagus and eggplant.

165 becky March 22, 2010 at 9:39 pm

It’s so hard to choose a favorite vegetable. I really like so many. But if I were to look at it based on what I eat the most of, it would be a tie between tomatoes & potatoes (ignoring the fruit/veggie debate about the tomato). I don’t think I’ve EVER seen a dish made of either of them that I didn’t like. I’ll eat them any way you can make them. Or raw. Doesn’t matter.

166 Christina March 22, 2010 at 9:49 pm

I am a vegetable l-o-v-e-r. Haven’t found one I don’t like… but I do love to add red bell peppers to anything and everything.

291 danna March 23, 2010 at 9:15 am

I LOVE brocolli, and really almost all other veggies!

292 Angela March 23, 2010 at 9:20 am

Originally, I would have said tomato because they are so versatile, & you can do so much w/ the different varieties… enjoy them whole, garnish a salad, slice ‘em up & dip in a sweet sauce, put on a favorite sandwich, cook them up in a sauce, mix ‘em in a pasta salad… the list goes on, but like your previous commenter you’re right it’s not technically a vegetable. So, the next one that pops in my head is Edamame (Soy beans)… we love those little guys in our house… in fact my 4 yr. old can gobble down an entire bowl on her own – it’s the de-shelling thanks fun to her. Mmm… I’m wishing I had some now. Boil ‘em up sprinkle on some sea salt & you’ve got a deelish appetizer/snack!

elianasmom@msn.com

293 alice March 23, 2010 at 9:29 am

I like a lot of different veggies, but my favorite is probably a big, juicy red tomato, hot from the garden, sliced with salt sprinkled on it! YummY!

294 Sarah March 23, 2010 at 9:33 am

My fav has got to be summer squash. Throw a little onion in the pot with it and you can’t go wrong. Just wish anyone else in my house would eat it. I’m working on them though.

Beets, tomatoes and red peppers. My grandparents had a giant garden when I was growing up, so I was lucky enough to be exposed to lots of good vegetables before I was old enough to turn my nose up at them. This year my goal is to try to do that for my 3 year old that’s getting a little picky by growing a variety of things in our garden. She’s usually game to try what she’s worked so hard to grow!

308 Julie Peed March 23, 2010 at 10:05 am
