Chiquita Bites: A Giveaway

June 21, 2010

As the school year ends, families are heading out on vacations and day outings. More and more, we’re going to want to grab a quick bite and not worry about cooking. However, one can only eat so many hamburgers and fries. I know from past road trips when we drove for days, that sometimes I’d rather not eat at all than drive through the Golden Arches one. more. time.

I like to have fresh fruit and veggies on hand as frequently as possible. And while it’s always better to prepare them myself, sometimes when you’re on the road, that’s a little tough.

Recently Chiquita sent us a selection of their new Chiquita Bites. These are individually packaged servings of apples, grapes, pineapple, and carrots, perfect for picnices and other meals on the run. The FishKids loved all the varieties that they tasted. And I was amazed that the apple slices really didn’t turn brown. They are treated with calcium and vitamin c washes to preserve them.

While they aren’t straight from the tree, these fruit servings are an excellent choice for when you’re on the go.

When my son was a toddler (he’s now 18) he would grocery shop with me. Our favorite grocery store had a wonderful produce man who ALWAYS gave my son a banana to munch on while I shopped. He looked forward to that banana!

2 Tabitha K June 21, 2010 at 8:36 pm

Oh goodness, there are so many but mostly late night banana splits with the parents. I’m sure they did it with my siblings too but they would wake me up in the middle of the night (as a youngster middle of the night was 10pm lol) and tell me I was the only one getting a special treat of a banana split. We would make them and sit and giggle and whisper so as to not wake up my siblings. Even though I’m sure they did something like this for my siblings, I felt so special!

3 Becky June 22, 2010 at 10:20 am

@Tabitha K, I love this, what a great idea for some special time for a child to spend with their parents!

4 Carrie June 24, 2010 at 12:24 am

@Tabitha K, I love this idea!! I am going to have to start doing that with my 2 boys this summer.

5 Ronalee Duncan June 21, 2010 at 8:36 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory is when I would share a banana with my daughter and let her grab the top and pull off herself a piece.

6 Michelle June 21, 2010 at 8:39 pm

I recently found a coupon for Chiquita Bites but I can’t find them in any of our local grocery store chains! Any suggestions? I’d still love to have all of the goodies! Thanks!

7 Christine June 21, 2010 at 8:40 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory is putting them in smoothies with peanut butter and chocolate.

8 Emily June 21, 2010 at 8:40 pm

My son just finished a banana and threw the skin on the floor. I asked why he would do such a thing and he said, “I wanted to see someone fall.”

9 Marty June 21, 2010 at 8:42 pm

My mom always carried a banana around with her, just in case she got hungry. Or she’d get up in the middle of the night and eat one. Still does and she’s in a nursing home now.

10 Cathy June 21, 2010 at 8:42 pm

When my oldest was just barely old enough to know what a sticker was, he used to love taking the Chiquita stickers off the bananas. Thank you for the giveaway!

11 Dawn June 21, 2010 at 8:43 pm

I always remember my mom buying Chiquita bananas and cutting them up to put in our cereal before school. And the best part was finding the little Chiquita sticker and my brother and I sticking them on each other!!

12 Suzanne June 21, 2010 at 8:47 pm

Gotta love them cut up in those good old Frosted Flakes as a kid. YUM!

13 Lois June 21, 2010 at 8:53 pm

My boys love banana’s and right now the best thing is my 13mth old getting all excited when he sees one and wants it right. now.!!! I can’t hardly buy them before he eats one.

14 Connie June 21, 2010 at 8:55 pm

This may sound weird however my favorite Chiquita memory is the stickers :) on the bananas!

15 Amanda June 21, 2010 at 8:55 pm

Making fruit salad with my grandpa and cutting up bananas!

16 Wendy June 21, 2010 at 8:57 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory is when I was a child and I would take all the stickers off the bananas and stick them on my face. I even “borrowed” stickers from the ones at the store a couple of times. I still love bananas, now my girls fight over the stickers.

Thank You for the giveaway!!!

Does it count that we sang the Chiquita Banana song as part of our 8th grade chorus medley? And that I was wearing a gorilla suit in a polka dot bikini? (we also sand itsy bitsy teenie weeny yellow polka dot bikini)

18 Debbie Chamlee June 21, 2010 at 9:10 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory would have to be when my mom & I would eat banana splits for dinner during the summer. There would be times when my mom would not want to heat up the kitchen to cook dinner or we were just so busy in the evenings we would stop & get banana splits. I know they were not the healthiest option but they filled me up!

19 Lisa W June 21, 2010 at 9:13 pm

First memory that comes to mind is all the times I diced bananas & rolled them in crushed rice crisp cereal, as finger food for R when he was a baby. (Miss being a SAHM… and also miss my child willingly sitting to eat, for more than 30 seconds at a time!)

Another would be all the times my mom made chocolate covered frozen bananas as a summer treat. (Yum!)

Thanks… :)

20 Trina June 21, 2010 at 9:19 pm

I think my favorite memory is eating frozen chocolate covered bananas when I was a kid. I haven’t had one in years!

21 jen June 21, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Nothing makes banana bread like a Chiquita banana. They maintain some of their solidity even when brown. Weird that I know that, huh?

22 christina gasich June 21, 2010 at 9:32 pm

My four year old loves to pull the blue stickers off . Once he actually put one on my rear end and I walked around for half the day until I saw it. Lil’ stinker!

23 Rebecca S. June 21, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Jessica,
My favorite Chiquita banana story has to do with helping my grandma take the time to slice them up and make her famous banana pudding. She is gone now, but the memory is still fresh in my mind as if it were yesterday.
Rebecca

24 Jill W June 21, 2010 at 9:58 pm

Cut-up bananas on Cheerios are sumblime!

25 Kristy June 21, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Besides the dancing?

Both girls asking for slices of banana on their morning cereal…when the are not asking to eat them monkey style….

26 Jodi Nevins June 21, 2010 at 10:04 pm

having my kids make fruit salad with me.

27 Rebecca June 21, 2010 at 10:10 pm

Me and my siblings used to fight over the Chiquita stickers too. We also used to dress up and walk around with fruit on our head just like the lady pictured on the sticker.

28 Sheri June 21, 2010 at 10:28 pm

I always think of the Chiquita Banana girl with her fruit hat.My dad’s favorite snack is a banana and I was always embarrassed when he would walk around in public with a banana in his shirt pocket :)

29 Lisa June 21, 2010 at 10:30 pm

Collecting the infamous Chiquita banana stickers attached to the bunch of bananas when I was growing up and my brother and I would try to stick them on each other without the other person knowing.

30 Leticia Montoya June 21, 2010 at 10:32 pm

My favorite chiquita memory was when my first grade teacher used the banana to do magic trick. Prior to doing the trick, Mrs. took a toothpick and inserted in the the banana, wiggled it around and cut the banana in half. Then she held the banana up for all to see “unpeeled and untouched” :) anyhow, she would have one kid magically “saw” through the banana with an invisible saw. Then she would peel the banana and volia! the invisible saw worked!! the banana was cut in half!

31 Lee June 22, 2010 at 3:05 am

My mom has a great story about how I ate bananas as a toddler (Think cookie monster) and every time my toddler eats one my mom reenacts it. Luckily my DD doesn’t seem to pick up on that particular technique.

32 Amy June 22, 2010 at 3:26 am

Chiquita hosted a soccer school once that I attended. Now whenever I eat a banana I think of soccer. And since my baby girl loves bananas, I find myself thinking of soccer a lot! :)

33 Sara Jane June 22, 2010 at 3:28 am

My favorite Chiquita memory is when I introduced peanut butter and banana sandwiches to my children. They think I’m a genius for coming up with such an amazing combination, hehe.

34 Heather June 22, 2010 at 3:34 am

When I was a little girl my dad worked the dockyards in San Diego unloading the Chiquita Banana Boats. He would come home covered in those stickers much to my and my sisters delight. Still smile every time I see one of those stickers.

35 eunice b June 22, 2010 at 3:42 am

chiquita and bananas…..that’s the only thing I knew about chiquita growing up….loved the little stickers on the banana bunches

36 kris June 22, 2010 at 3:45 am

My mom always made us peanut butter and banana sandwiches on the bad for you white bread – they were sooo good!

37 Sherry June 22, 2010 at 3:58 am

My current favorite memeory is of my two year old daughter. She LOVES bananas so if I don’t pay attention she will be in the bananas and eat the whole bunch!

38 Heidi Barker June 22, 2010 at 3:59 am

When I was little I collected the stickers from the bananas in a sticker book. I didn’t have access to the cool stickers my kids have now. But mine were just as treasured. My kids have their own sticker books now, and among the really cool stickers are Chiquita banana stickers.

39 Rebekah June 22, 2010 at 4:02 am

two words – banana splits!

40 Mary Jo June 22, 2010 at 4:06 am

I have always liked bananas, but my 15 month old loves them with a very deep passion. Ha! “Nana” was one of her earliest words, and she asks me for one at least three times every day! :)

41 Tracey June 22, 2010 at 4:29 am

It would be having my daughters try to read the word “Chiquita” from the sticker on the bananas as we put them into the grocery cart!

42 Joan June 22, 2010 at 4:35 am

I’d love to win this! Thanks.

43 Emily June 22, 2010 at 4:45 am

banana cream pie!

44 sally June 22, 2010 at 4:52 am

Sharing a banana with my daughter who LOVES bananas

45 Sarah June 22, 2010 at 5:05 am

Growing up, we would eat bananas with a spoon once you cut the top off. Weird, but somehow it made the banana more fun.

46 Lerin June 22, 2010 at 5:07 am

We like to say “Chiquita Banana” with an accent, like in the voice of the Taco Bell dog. Silly I know…

47 Twila June 22, 2010 at 5:12 am

There’s a way to take a banana and cut through it without peeling it. When I was a teenager I enjoyed playing this trick on people and watching them when they were peeling their banana and all of a sudden part of it would topple off!

48 CW June 22, 2010 at 5:16 am

At camp, we always had frozen bananas dipped in chocolate and chopped nuts. They were the best popsicles! Now my kids like them for a cool treat.

49 Amanda June 22, 2010 at 5:17 am

My favorite memory is of my husband singing the Chiquita banana song. He’ll do it for you too if you ask ;)

50 Nicole June 22, 2010 at 5:19 am

Oh, how we love bananas in our house! The memories are many, and not done being made by a long shot, but perhaps the current favorite is of my 20-month old son, who in his need to eat a banana and fill his mouth with one of his favorite flavors, passed up peeling the fruit and forged ahead! And that’s how I found him in the pantry, a bunch of bananas dragged to the floor and a confused look on his little face as he wondered why his banana didn’t taste quite right.

Have a lovely day!

51 Jennifer B June 22, 2010 at 5:20 am

peanut ‘bananner’ ‘sammiches’ as i used to call them!

52 Tracy June 22, 2010 at 5:22 am

My memory is the Chiquita Banana lady and the song

53 Kim D in TX June 22, 2010 at 5:22 am

I think right now my favorite memories are being made watching my husband and toddler share a banana every evening after dinner! Our son gets so excited! They each get half to munch on in the porch swing. So cute!

54 Kimberly June 22, 2010 at 5:24 am

My favorite memory was being “banana buddies” with my dad. He’d take a bite, then I’d take a bite. As I got older, he became banana buddies with my cousins, who were much younger than me. Now, I get to enjoy watching him be “banana buddies” with my two year old son, who loves to point out “nanas” as we go through the grocery store.

55 Michelle T June 22, 2010 at 5:29 am

My daughter always loves to wear the banana sticker, so giving her a chiquita banana with the sticker on it always makes her morning :)

56 pam June 22, 2010 at 5:30 am

I love having banana bread in the morning for breakfast and my youngest daughter eats tiny chocolate chips stuck in the banana!

57 Katie June 22, 2010 at 5:33 am

My parents had these cool banana split dishes and we so looked forward to having our desserts in them. A banana split in the special dish just seemed to taste better.

58 cindy June 22, 2010 at 5:34 am

chiquita banana, cut up and added to my steel cut oats for breakfast – YUM!

59 Ellen June 22, 2010 at 5:35 am

My 24 month old daughter loves her bannans! she peels the skin, and hands it to me saying yuck! and then east away!

60 Chrissy J June 22, 2010 at 5:38 am

My favorite chiquita memory is when I went to the grocery store with my mom and she would give us the “sticker” off the bananas.

61 Sarah June 22, 2010 at 5:39 am

eating bananas for breakfast as a child with my grandparents

62 Jennifer June 22, 2010 at 5:40 am

I loved the chiquita banana commercial… it was the best! :)

63 lauren June 22, 2010 at 5:43 am

My most memorable Chiquita memory was during a food shopping trip with my 19 month old daughter….I put the bananas in the cart not realizing my little girl took the Chiquita sticker off and placed it on the front of my shirt….I was walking around the store the whole time with this sticker on me…LOL!! Didn’t realize it until I got home and looked in the mirror. We love Chiquita “nanners” in our house!

64 Liz V June 22, 2010 at 5:49 am

Our 10 month old just discovered bananas but we have to be fast when he gets his hands on one – the peel, famous sticker and all go directly into his mouth!!

65 Keri June 22, 2010 at 5:49 am

My high school civics teacher used to sing the old Chiquita Banana commercial to us in class when things were getting too loud. It was hilarious – and always got everyone’s attention.

66 Jennifer Ott June 22, 2010 at 5:51 am

I must admit, my favorite memory was being mailed a banana (with sticker still on it!) while at camp after complaining to my mother that we weren’t getting enough fresh fruit!

67 alison June 22, 2010 at 5:52 am

Thanks for the chance to win. I used to collect the Chiquita Banana stickers when I was younger lol.

68 Holly T. June 22, 2010 at 5:57 am

I loved the Chiquita Banana commercials as a kid and now can’t get the theme song out of my head!
Great giveaway…thanks!

69 Mel June 22, 2010 at 6:03 am

Those sound really fun to try. Favorite memory is having the stickers from the banana. Thanks for the giveaway!

70 anoo s June 22, 2010 at 6:03 am

My favourite chiqita memory is making smoothies with chiqita bananas and mangoes… a good pre workout meal :)

71 Kelly Hess June 22, 2010 at 6:10 am

We make a fruit pizza with sugar cookie dough as the crust, a cream cheese mixture and top with fruit, and of course bananas! Top it off with an orange glaze, YUM a summertime treat!

72 Nancy June 22, 2010 at 6:13 am

The commercial for sure! Second in line would be to have them sliced in my cherrios

73 Sheila June 22, 2010 at 6:19 am

Probably just being silly with the sticker.

74 Teresa June 22, 2010 at 6:21 am

The Banana Bread page of our mother’s old Betty Crocker cookbook is littered with the old Chiquita stickers from when my sisters and I were learning to cook. The book just naturally falls open to that page now. :)

75 Holly June 22, 2010 at 6:33 am

Watching my boys when they were toddlers walk around eating a banana with the chiquita sticker stuck on their foreheads! Awesome!

76 Michelle June 22, 2010 at 6:34 am

I have a great recipe for chocolate chip banana bread. Love making it in huge batches once I’ve frozen enough over-ripe bananas!
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

77 Liz T. June 22, 2010 at 6:35 am

I remember my dad bought a huge case of bananas one time and my 3 1/2 year old sister like them so much she ate 8 in one day!!! We still laugh about it now!

78 Tara June 22, 2010 at 6:38 am

My son LOVES banana’s – even the people at publix know him as the banana kid – of course those were chiquita bananas!

79 M in TX June 22, 2010 at 6:41 am

Definitely banana split night every other Friday as a kid.

80 Dana June 22, 2010 at 6:44 am

It would be seeing guys dress up as the Chiquita Lady at Halloween!!

81 patricia June 22, 2010 at 6:48 am

I bought the mini ones and my husband said heck i would have to eat the whole bunch just for my snack lol

82 Deanna June 22, 2010 at 6:48 am

Banana vanilla wafer pudding is delicious! Good summertime dessert.

83 Karen@Candid Diversions June 22, 2010 at 6:55 am

My sisters and I used to stick the chiquita stickers on our faces when we ate our breakfast bananas. I think we got the idea from a Beverly Cleary book. Never failed to make us laugh!

84 Kim June 22, 2010 at 6:55 am

My favorite memory is frozen chocolate covered ones…..

85 Jaime June 22, 2010 at 6:57 am

I love using Chiquita bananas in smoothies or on cereal!

86 Kelly June 22, 2010 at 6:57 am

Every summer I would go to my grandparents for a couple of weeks (giving my mom a break :-) ). We would always by the makings for banana splits. My grandfather would put one of the Chiquita stickers on my nose at the store and dare me to wear it until we were done. I always took that dare!

87 debbielynne June 22, 2010 at 7:02 am

Banana splits with my hubby, and the bananas must be green!

88 Cindy June 22, 2010 at 7:07 am

Re-sticking the stickers, mostly on those who hadn’t asked for them!

89 Diane June 22, 2010 at 7:09 am

Nothing like making peanut butter and banana sandwiches together for a family outing!

90 Sue D June 22, 2010 at 7:10 am

My son makes banana smoothies everyday for breakfast. Personally my husband and I like banana splits! The kids always liked the stickers and I remember commercials with the Chiquita lady with the fruit hat.

91 Stacy June 22, 2010 at 7:13 am

I am not a banana fan but my kids and my hubby take Chiquita bananas and make banana splits all summer long. It is my daughters favorite request.

92 MrsD05 June 22, 2010 at 7:16 am

I don’t really have specific banana memories. I guess I would say that finding out my chihuahua has a serious banana addiction would probably be my favorite memory. I made a banana pudding over the weekend and I thought she was going to have a fit with me slicing all those bananas. I did give her some. :-)

93 Amanda June 22, 2010 at 7:19 am

Mine was getting a banana split when I was younger. If we made the Honor Roll at school, we would get a banana split and were allowed to choose all the toppings we wanted. Then my brother and sister and I would argue over who would get the “Chiquita” sticker.

94 Pam Howard June 22, 2010 at 7:22 am

My kids eating bananas like “monkeys.”

95 Allison I. June 22, 2010 at 7:26 am

My favourite memories are those of my 2 boys just learning to eat solid food and giving them little pieces of banana on their high chair and watching them chase them all around the tray trying to pick them up.

96 chris June 22, 2010 at 7:34 am

love the stickers too!

97 susan June 22, 2010 at 7:50 am

When I was young, shopping in the store with my mom, I used to take a bunch of the Chiquita stickers and put them all over my shirt.

98 Lauren June 22, 2010 at 7:53 am

My sister & I used to peel off the stickers and put them on our hands – whoever kept theirs on until the end of the day won. Made washing your hands pretty difficult! ;)

99 Amber June 22, 2010 at 7:56 am

We love making frozen banana popsicles in the summer. Dip the banana in chocolate and roll around in nuts or sprinkles….yummy!

100 Paula June 22, 2010 at 7:57 am

When I was 2 years old at Christmas time….I asked Santa for a banana and a snickers bar for my great-grandmother. I’m told that after opening my presents I started crying…no….sobbing….because I didn’t get what I had asked Santa for. My mom quickly took me to my stocking where a bright yellow banana and a snickers bar were hidden inside. I promptly ran to my great-grandmother to give her the snickers bar and held the banana up so someone would open it for me. If only life were that simple now!

101 Linda June 22, 2010 at 7:57 am

The Chiquita Banana song. After all these years, it’s still the first thing that I think of when I hear Chiquita.

102 Cheryl June 22, 2010 at 7:57 am

When my son was just a little guy (toddler), we used to buy bananas and, then sit down and peel one, then we would get the peanut butter out, slice the banana into little slices, and then put peanut butter on the slices. This was so yummy for us and we were the only two that liked it. This was a favorite summertime snack for us.

Thanks! :)

103 theresa June 22, 2010 at 8:08 am

My fave Chiquita memory is when there was a coupon and a peelie on Chiquita bites last year and I was able to get them free several times:-)

104 LaDonna June 22, 2010 at 8:12 am

My daughter and I recently tried the Pineapple bites and just loved them.

105 Jessica June 22, 2010 at 8:26 am

when I was a child my uncle (a grocery store manager) gave me an inflatable Chiquita banana boat that he received as part of a store promotion. I spent many hours floating around in my banana boat in my grandparent’s pool that summer.

106 Adrienne Larkin June 22, 2010 at 8:38 am

I grew up with Chiquita bananas and it was a gift if you got a banana with a sticker. I play the same game with my kids although almost all of the bananas in a bunch have the stickers now.

107 Heather June 22, 2010 at 8:44 am

My favorite memory involves the stickers. When I was kid, for a time, they were using different designs, sometimes to celebrate something special (like the Olympics) and sometimes just, I guess, for interest. I used to love collecting the different designs and my parents obligingly let me decorate the refrigerator with them!

108 Jennifer Foutch June 22, 2010 at 8:44 am

watching my toddler smear them all over her face

109 Ashley June 22, 2010 at 8:45 am

My 18 month old loves ‘nanas’ and wants one every morning. She just about comes unglued as I’m peeling it.

110 Leona June 22, 2010 at 8:49 am

Both my children have been feasting on chiquita bananas since they started solids. Favorite memories would be the times that they wolfed down a whole banana for the first time by the time they were 6 months!

111 Sharon @ UnfinishedMom June 22, 2010 at 9:06 am

My favorite Chiquita memory is actually more recent — My kids love having banana slices with peanut butter for snack. It is a regular event at our house.

112 Angie June 22, 2010 at 9:08 am

taking the stickers off the bananas! Love bananas and now my kids love them also.

113 Johnlyn June 22, 2010 at 9:09 am

Eating a banana upside down.

114 Carleen June 22, 2010 at 9:13 am

When I was a little girl my momma would let smash the bananas for yummy banana bread.

115 Vanessa June 22, 2010 at 9:17 am

Growing up it was a treat to get a whole banana to your self.My Mom and Dad had seven children.

116 Adrienne June 22, 2010 at 9:31 am

The song gets stuck in my head every time I even think about it….I love to eat bananas on cereal or ice cream but my toddler won’t even touch one unless she doesn’t feel good. Very odd.

117 Connie Corey June 22, 2010 at 9:49 am

I love how my dh and all three sons love bananas, but I can’t stand them!

118 Pam June 22, 2010 at 9:55 am

Isn’t the sticker the best part? My daughter always wants the banana with the sticker.

119 Suzy Ivy June 22, 2010 at 10:14 am

we love eating banana pops right now… frozen bananas with a popsicle stick drizzled in chocolate. YUMM!!!

120 Margery June 22, 2010 at 10:17 am

I remember eating Chiquita bananas for school lunch and putting the sticker on my forehead. I dunno. All the kids did it, so I guess it was cool in the 70′s.

121 Becky June 22, 2010 at 10:23 am

We just love bananas as snacks – my 2 year old will eat one any time he is offered one! We also love to make banana bread, another one of our favorite snacks.

122 Morgan June 22, 2010 at 10:25 am

I loved bananas cut up in my Cheerios when I was little.

123 Rachel June 22, 2010 at 10:27 am

My favorite banana memories are pretty current: my 8 month old hates bananas, but since I want her to like them, I get to see the hilarious faces she makes every time she eats a piece.

124 Tricia June 22, 2010 at 10:27 am

My boys love the pineapple bites.

125 Andrea Bindewald June 22, 2010 at 10:29 am

My kids LOVE bananas! They have one almost everyday. We enjoy making banana bread and muffins as well!

126 Brandi June 22, 2010 at 10:29 am

Both of my babies love bananas and that was actually one of my toddler son’s first words, he loves them so much!

127 Sharon June 22, 2010 at 10:30 am

My favorite memory is the blue stickers found on each banana. We would stick them on different things until they wouldn’t stick anymore.

128 Laura June 22, 2010 at 10:38 am

Honestly? I don’t think I have a favorite Chiquita memory, except I remember seeing the Chiquita banana girl in commercials when I was little. Sorry that isn’t more exciting!

129 Mandy Fi June 22, 2010 at 10:41 am

My daughter loves to search for the bundle of bananas that has the most stickers on them before I buy them! As soon as we’re home she takes them all off and sticks them on pieces of paper and makes a book out of the pages! : ) It’s the simple things in life!!

130 Shannon June 22, 2010 at 10:43 am

Banana pudding with chiquita banana slices and nilla wafers.

131 mamaJ June 22, 2010 at 10:48 am

I love the bananas. Some times I spot the chiquita bananas in the grocery stores. The goodies looks good with all the picnic items.

132 Amy N. June 22, 2010 at 10:49 am

I remember the Chiquita banana commercials when I was a kid. I loved banana on my PB&J sandwiches.
Thanks for the chance to win.

133 Liz June 22, 2010 at 10:51 am

Apples and bananas are ALREADY in packages and ready to take with you. It’s called a peel.

This is a waste of energy, fuel and resources.

134 Christy Flynn June 22, 2010 at 11:12 am

I love bananas and plain cheerios and milk for a midnight snack.

135 jessica June 22, 2010 at 11:18 am

When I worked in Ecuador for a year, I got to go to a banana farm…shhh, it was probably Dole, but still, fresh bananas…nothing like em. These green ones we buy and have to let ripen just don’t measure up. I miss that for sure!

136 Diane G June 22, 2010 at 11:24 am

Bananas are a favorite in my family. We add them to anything we can. And I have tried the Bites pineapple slices. Very good.

137 jamie June 22, 2010 at 11:42 am

Feeding babies their first bites of bananas!

138 Yvette June 22, 2010 at 11:45 am

My favorite memory is my son sharing his stickers off our Chiquita bananas. He loves the stickers and the silly faces on them. I knew I was “special” to him when he started bringing me his stickers and saying, “I love you momma”. :)
~Yvette

139 Joan June 22, 2010 at 11:46 am

Chiquita memory??? hmmmm…..i think is the song that plays in the commercial.

140 Preparedmom June 22, 2010 at 11:59 am

Like with many, the thrill of finding a sticker on my banana as a child is a great memory, and now my own children love finding stickers on theirs. More fun than stickers, though, is getting a hand written message on an unpeeled banana! (Ink pens write great on banana peels!)
The first time I was exposed to Chaquita’s pineapple slices I was on a flight from Africa. Exhausted and weary from work there what a treat it was to find that pineapple piece on my lunch tray! Delicious!

141 Anna S. June 22, 2010 at 12:12 pm

My Favorite Chiquita memory as a child was having them sliced up in my Rice Krispies cereal. Growing up with five brothers we went through a lot of bananas. If you don’t have a lot of money for fruit, you can a least afford some Chiquita bananas!

142 Sarah M. June 22, 2010 at 12:20 pm

I love watching my 14 month old daughter eat bananas. She enjoys them so much she smiles between bites. Whenever I look at a banana I think of her enjoying them.

143 susan j June 22, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Taking my first little boy to the grocery store with me and finding the bananas with the most stickers so he could apply them to his face, arms, legs, etc.

144 Beth June 22, 2010 at 12:39 pm

My favorite chiquita memory was spending the night with my grandmother. In the morning, I’d wake up and for breakfast we’d always sit at her little table and have cereal and chiquita bananas. It was so cozy and comfortable. It makes me smile to remember that now.

145 Katie June 22, 2010 at 12:43 pm

I always remember the Chiquita banana lady dancing around on commercials.

146 JessieLeigh June 22, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Honestly, my most vivid Chiquita memory is a rather current one… my husband who will sing “I’m a Chiquita banana and I’m here to say…” and make me giggle. :)

147 Elizabeth Hall June 22, 2010 at 1:00 pm

I guess my favorite memory would have to be watching those 20 some bananas disappearing in a matter of days – 2-3. We love our bananas!

148 Michelle Hardy June 22, 2010 at 1:01 pm

While pregnant with my daughter, I craved bananas and milk. My daughter is now five, and she has always loved her banana and milk snack.

149 Amanda June 22, 2010 at 1:31 pm

My favorite is my first daughter eating two bananas in one sitting. It was her first taste of real (non baby food) food and she couldn’t get enough!

150 Abby June 22, 2010 at 1:34 pm

Ooh, I love the Chiquita banana song … I can’t remember the words, but I’m humming it now. What fun stories!

151 bridget June 22, 2010 at 1:35 pm

i remember playing dress up like the chiquita banana girl with my grandma’s plastic fruit.

152 Kristi June 22, 2010 at 2:17 pm

I liked getting the sticker off of the banana. My brothers and I would fight over them.

153 Jill June 22, 2010 at 2:19 pm

My daughter loves the stickers on the bananas! Her favorite thing to do is eat the banana and then take the sticker off the peel. She loves that the bananas always have stickers!

154 Stacie June 22, 2010 at 2:33 pm

We rarely had fresh fruit when I was growing up because our household income was so low. I truly did not eat bananas until I was an adult and now I eat at least one a day. Love them!

155 Melanie June 22, 2010 at 2:43 pm

My favorite thing is that my daughters have bananas as a snack often before bedtime and the two of them can sometimes eat 5 Chiquita bananas!

156 Stacy June 22, 2010 at 2:55 pm

In kindergarten, I stuck every banana sticker I got on the inside of my lunchbox. My mom must have loved that!

157 Amber June 22, 2010 at 3:10 pm

The classic ‘wear the banana sticker on your forehead’ that I now get to continue with my kiddos. :0)

158 elizabeth June 22, 2010 at 3:22 pm

when i was 8 my best friend & i would dance around her pool singing the Chaquita banana song, jump in & then do it all again… followed, of course, by a Chaquita banana snack :)

159 Tiffany Waters June 22, 2010 at 3:28 pm

okay don’t laugh……do you remember the Chiquita Banana Lady (Carmen Miranda)? She had a hat that was a scarf tied up with fruits hanging on it. I bought one back in high school and still have it (20 years later). I have worn it several times over the years and won many of contests with it. in high school i had a skirt with fruit printed on it and matching fruit earrings. It was my Halloween costume when I was a senior. I lost the skirt and earrings over the years, but still have the cool hat!

160 Amanda Y. June 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Peanut butter and banana and chocolate soymilk smoothies or chiquita banana splits!

161 Rachel June 22, 2010 at 3:40 pm

As a little girl, I would peel only the inner strip of the banana, then spread peanut butter on it. Placed on the table, peanut butter side up, I had a Banana Boat, which I ate with a spoon.

I still do that, and my children are learning how to do it too! :)

162 Malisa P. June 22, 2010 at 3:41 pm

I agree with one of the previous commentors, the stickers on the bananas are the best!

163 Jen U June 22, 2010 at 3:47 pm

My best friend calls me chica, so when I found out I was pregnant, she started calling the baby “chiquita”. And for the welcome home from the hospital gift, she sent me a giant chuquita bath towel. Still my daughter’s favorite towel / play blanket 5 years later.

164 Christina Burrell June 22, 2010 at 3:52 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory is eating chiquita bananas mashed up with peanut butter in peanut butter/banana sandwiches with my Granny.

165 Marcia Wilwerding June 22, 2010 at 4:02 pm

I would say my favorite Chiquita memory has got to be the old Chiquita banana cartoon commercials on TV back in the 60′s. (Yes, I’m *that* old.) I think you can still find them on YouTube. So cute!

166 chari June 22, 2010 at 4:03 pm

We are Chiquita banana eaters here. The best part is when I get some brown ones left and make banana bread.

167 shirley June 22, 2010 at 4:55 pm

My “PAPA” always got a bag full for his grandkids, he’s gone, but I will never forget.

168 Heather Abbott June 22, 2010 at 5:07 pm

My favorite memory is of a recent grocery store trip where my boys were ready to get their free cookie from the bakery department, which was heard by our produce guy, who proceeded to hand them bags of apple slices to munch on instead, thus saving me from sugar overload. My boys were more than thrilled to munch on those as we shopped!

169 Sheila June 22, 2010 at 5:23 pm

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches, of course!! ;)

170 Beth June 22, 2010 at 5:33 pm

When my sibblings and I were kids, we would stick the stickers all over our mom’s back and laugh hysterically.

171 Kate June 22, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Banana pancakes- simple!

172 Katy P June 22, 2010 at 6:13 pm

We used to love to take the Chiquita stickers off the bananas as we ate them & wear the sticker!

173 Leslie June 22, 2010 at 6:15 pm

right now my daughter’s door is filled with chiquita stickers that she’s peeled off bananas she’s eaten! It’s her little collection.

174 Katherine June 22, 2010 at 6:23 pm

I’ve always loved the commercials with the dancing girls. “I’m Chiquita banana and I’m here to stay.”

175 Kelly W. June 22, 2010 at 6:54 pm

Every time we go to Wal-mart, my daughter asks for the Chiquita apples and grapes. It’s cheap, makes her happy, and is good for her! They are a life saver!

176 MaryBeth June 22, 2010 at 7:14 pm

My favorite Chaquita memories are of feeding each of my 4 girls bananas as their first sweet treat when they were new to solid foods.

177 Crystal S. June 22, 2010 at 7:18 pm

I love putting Chiquita bananas in the freezer for a few minutes makes a great snack on a hot day!

178 Laura Aridgides June 22, 2010 at 7:23 pm

My favorite memory is banana milkshakes or smoothies. I just love those.

179 Heather June 22, 2010 at 7:34 pm

My 1st son’s first food after breastmilk and rice cereal was a mashed up Chiquita banana!

180 Susan June 22, 2010 at 7:39 pm

This has nothing to do with food, but my favorite Chiquita moment is a large inflatable Chiquita Banana that my brother gave me for my birthday when I was in junior high. It was great fun riding the waves at the ocean. My friends and I had such a blast playing with it.

181 Leigh June 22, 2010 at 7:40 pm

I’m not sure if I have a Chiquita memory…..other than putting the sticker on my forehead as a kid!!!

182 Kursten Byrne June 22, 2010 at 8:07 pm

We love these bites! I used to love taking the sticker off the banana when I was little and putting it on my nose.

183 Amy June 22, 2010 at 8:50 pm

love the single servings and would love to win this giveaway!

184 Ruth Hill June 22, 2010 at 9:35 pm

I did know about chiquita until I began buying their apple slices as an adult. I didn’t like bananas when I was growing up.

185 gala June 22, 2010 at 10:58 pm

My favorite Chiquita memory is the taste of the first banana in my life — it was Chiquita

186 Tracy June 23, 2010 at 3:57 am

I have to admit that my favorite Chiquita memory is their old commercial where the lady was dancing and singing about Chiquita bananas. I think about that commercial each and every time I see Chiquita bananas in the store. haha

187 Laurie L June 23, 2010 at 4:42 am

We were travelling all last week. My two year old really wanted bananas, and we were lucky enough to find a convenience store around that had them. My sweet little one noticed that they had “the woman sticker” on them. I don’t know that I would have noticed that they were Chiquita bananas, much less did I expect him to! :)

188 Terri June 23, 2010 at 5:10 am

We literally have bananas every day. If it’s not a smoothie or cereal it’s banana choc chip muffins or PB and B sandwhiches. Every single time I peel the banana I hear the “Chiqita” song in my head lol

189 Dina June 23, 2010 at 5:17 am

My kids and I love Chiquita Bananas. We live for “one ingredient banana icecream”.

190 Marilyn June 23, 2010 at 6:06 am

We have always loved bananas, and both of my boys love them too. It was one of the first dozen words for both of them!

191 Michelle June 23, 2010 at 6:17 am

My 2 year old loves bananas, so we constantly have them in the house. He cracked me up one day after he’d just turned 2 when he turned down the older banana I offered him and asked for one of the ones we’d just bought at the grocery store because he wanted “the good banana” instead.

192 Rochelle June 23, 2010 at 6:28 am

When I think of Chiquita I think of my daughter Adrianna. One morning I woke up and was CRAVING bananas, I mean like seriously craving bananas. I told my coworker, who of course says “You’re pregnant!” I said, “Just because I’m craving something, doesn’t mean I’m pregnant!” I was pregnant. And all through that pregnancy I craved bananas. Now my daughter, who’s 4, LOVES bananas!

193 Beth June 23, 2010 at 6:56 am

My kids just recently took a bag of the apples to a swim meet and they devoured the entire bag after their first swim. Packing more next time!!

194 Gabe June 23, 2010 at 7:16 am

195 vicki June 23, 2010 at 8:40 am

Sharing a banana sandwich with my dad.

196 Karen June 23, 2010 at 9:16 am

My favorite memory is playing with the banana stickers.

197 Rebecca June 23, 2010 at 10:00 am

This isn’t really a memory but bananas are the first fruit I was able to get my toddler to eat. She isn’t a big fruit eater but she loves bananas and likes apples now too.

198 Therese S. June 23, 2010 at 12:52 pm

My childhood memory of bananas is a strange one.

We couldn’t have bananas in the house. When my dad came to United States as a teenager (after WWII), he got off the boat in New York and saw a street vendor selling fruit. Well, during the War, there wasn’t much fresh fruit available and my dad bought a banana and thought it was the best thing he had ever tasted so he bought another, and another, and another…so many that he got sick. From then on, he would get queezy at the sight of a banana.

A few times a year, my mom would take my sisters and I to the grocery store and treat us to a banana that we would have to eat in the car on the way home.

I now try to buy bananas year round and eat them with my cold cereal.

199 Brenna June 23, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Mmm making banana splits!

200 Kasee June 23, 2010 at 3:56 pm

201 Cec June 23, 2010 at 4:07 pm

I remember watching Bugs Bunny dressed up like the Chiquita Banana lady.

202 Jeana June 23, 2010 at 4:11 pm

My kids and I love all the funny face stickers on Chiquita bananas. They choose the bunch with the best sticker and I wear the sticker on my forehead as I shop the rest of the way through the store. :)

203 AllieZirkle June 23, 2010 at 4:18 pm

I have a photo of my hubby at 8 months old with a mouth full of Chiquita banana. My MIL talks about how she should have sent it in for a contest! :)

204 Lisa June 23, 2010 at 4:51 pm

None of my children like bananas, so I was pleased (and surprised) to learn that my little one loves them! That was a surprise.

205 Cindy Miller June 23, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Oh, my favorite memory has to be how I always looked forward to the stickers. They were so much fun and always considered part of the treat of having a banana. Now with three daughters, they have all done the same. The youngest still wants the stickers!!

206 Staci A June 23, 2010 at 5:37 pm

A few years ago, my son (about 2 then) took all the stickers off at least two bunches of bananas and stuck them all over his belly. He ran around the house dancing and showing them off. It was so cute!

207 Angela June 23, 2010 at 6:35 pm

I love bananas. They are a part of much of life and the ingredient to banana bread and banana cake – things I remember making and enjoying as a child with my mom and family.

208 Jenna June 23, 2010 at 7:24 pm

Loved my parents banana holder growing up. thought it was so cool!

209 Megan June 23, 2010 at 7:27 pm

My dear Grandma B (Doris Bergman) was told long ago that she was low in potassium. Not one to slouch on her health, she decided to be proactive by eating 8 bananas a day from then on. Until her dying day in 1997, she consumed 8 bananas a day. I’m not kidding. In her last years the family started doing the shopping for her as she couldn’t muster up the energy to drag her little red wagon to the grocer any longer. And, since she bought so many bananas a week, it was getting harder and harder for her to drag them all back home. So, the family started doing it for her. When any one of us would start loading 56 bananas into our cart, employees would look at us and say, “You must be one of Doris’s family members.” She’d eat the darkest ones first for the greatest effect. When she died we decided to honor her memory at her funeral by handing out Chiquita’s to each person who came to bid farewell. While there were tears, there were many more giggles as each person un-peeled their banana and thought of my sweet and rich in potassium Grandma B.

210 kriswithmany June 23, 2010 at 8:22 pm

My freshman year at college, we would see how many different banana stickers we could collect.

211 Leah June 23, 2010 at 9:16 pm

My girls use their bananas like a phone.

212 Andrea Watts June 24, 2010 at 6:55 am

Watching the commercials with the cartoon lady lol!

213 Tessa B. June 24, 2010 at 9:09 am

Our daughter LOVES bananas!

217 Valerie June 24, 2010 at 1:30 pm

I always loved pretending to use the banana as a telephone!

218 Michelle P. June 24, 2010 at 1:32 pm

My girls love to peel the bananas themselves and I love to tell them that monkeys can peel bananas with their toes! :)

219 Emily E June 25, 2010 at 9:58 am

As a child I just loved getting the chiquita sticker off of the bananas and putting it on my arm or face. lol! The lady with the fruit on her head was very exciting to me. :D

220 Rachel June 25, 2010 at 5:00 pm

My husbands Grandfather had a Chiquita lamp that he made for some salesmen in his son-in-laws office. It was quite unique and fun! We love bananas and all sorts of Chiquita produce. Blessings!

221 paige June 25, 2010 at 9:27 pm

I had a Chiquita banana soft doll when I was about 5. I remember dancing with the doll and singing the Chiquita banana song all through the house. I can still feel the warmth of the sun streaming into the living room and the background sound of my mom making dinner in the kitchen. Oh to be a carefree child singing and dancing!

222 Elizabeth R June 26, 2010 at 7:36 am

I have always loved them on Cheerios and the stickers are fun, too.

223 Cindy W June 26, 2010 at 7:55 pm

We use to make strawberry-banana smoothies. They were so good.

227 Michelle Murphy June 27, 2010 at 6:36 pm

I remember that my best friend growing up would always wear the stickers from her chiquita banana on her forehead after finishing it up, I think she still does at 25
