Frugal Friday: Fun Father’s Day Gifts

June 10, 2010

Father’s Day is a little over a week away. Have you planned a special surprise yet?

I’ve got three special men to shop for: FishPapa, my dad, and my father-in-law. And while I’d love to buy the new guitar, the new computer, or the new horse, those items aren’t in my budget.

Let’s face it. Guys are hard to shop for inexpensively. Usually the items they have an eye on aren’t found in the bargain aisle. The value of the gift really doesn’t matter. If we put meaningful sentiments behind whatever gift we bestow, we’ve greatly added to its value, regardless of the ticket price.

That said, it’s still fun to find unique and useful items that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

If you’re looking for ways to show the love, consider the following:

My husband is deploying again in September, so I’m getting him a photo dog tag to wear while he’s gone. It’s going to have a picture of the girls on one side and a picture of he and I on the other. :)

So true! It is hard to shop for them inexpensively. My husband has several hobbies that aren’t cheap. LOL! :D

Thank you for hosting this each week!

We don’t usually do gifts on Father’s Day / Mother’s Day. We try to do something like breakfast in bed or a special dinner. I love the idea of a grill thermometer. I might have to break tradition and buy a gift this year!

Guys are SO hard to buy for!! I’m still on the hunt for something for my dad. His hobbies are so expensive… cameras and computers!

My husband is getting a new gym outfit. I am appalled by his holey shirts that he wears to work out in. The poor guy needs some new clothes.

Thanks for the meme.

I am excited to say I got my husband a great gift through Groupon.com. I bought it back in February when I saw it and can’t wait to give it to him. He will love it. It’s indoor cart racing. I got it for 50-60% off if not more. My husband is hard to buy for too.

Hi! Thanks for sharing the frugal friday love! My article this time a Bittman recipe: Baked eggs and spinach and it is very frugal especially if you have your own pastured eggs and spinach in the garden! Enjoy and happy weekend!

The canvas photo is a great idea – that’s what I got my husband for his birthday. It was really worth it!

For my husband, I just have my son make him a card and we’ll do breakfast or something like that. For my dad I am making him a duct tape wallet!

My hubs is getting a homemade “Voted Best Dad 2010–Hands Down” tshirt with the words in place using iron-on tshirt transfers and our son’s handprints in place using acrylic paint. Our daughter should arrive a few days before Father’s Day, so I am also going to put her footprints on the shirt. So his “Voted Best Dad” shirt for this year actually reads “Voted Best Dad 2010–Hands (and feet) Down!” This is my third year to make this tshirt for his Father’s Day present, and he wears it every weekend that the weather is warm for the rest of the year!:) I also picked up two books on parenting that he has been wanting to read–”She Calls Me Daddy” on fathering daughters and “King Me” on fathering sons. And then I splurged a little more and picked up a Starbucks gift card for him.:) So I guess that I started out frugal and ended up splurging…:)
