Are you ready for the big weekend? My guess is that the next couple days will be pretty full of barbecues, swim parties, and a few fireworks. Personally, I’m hoping for some yummy cupcakes. I’m on this cupcake kick these days and am starting to try my hand at making them deliciously decadent — and working on those frosting techniques, too.
Summer can be so fun. Especially if you don’t have to spend a lot of money. Case in point: I’ll be baking those cupcakes myself, not buying them for $4 each at the froo-froo bakery.

I wish we had fireworks here. The 4th of July is not the same without fireworks but I guess when you live in the land of the midnight sun you cannot do much about it. Enjoy your weekend!

We went to a waterpark recently and our strategy was the same as your theme park strategy. It was very expensive, but the children loved it.
We did have to leave the premises to eat our own food, but that worked well for us, since we could get right back in with a bracelet.
We did not quit for the day until everyone was exhasuted … after 7 hours of running around. LOL

Summer is a great time to learning new things. I’m also trying my hand at some cake decorating techniques and I’m teaching my children some cooking and sewing. I figure teaching them life skills is every bit as important as history and science. Actually, I like to teach history and science AS we’re learning life skills.
What great ideas! We’ve been trying to find things to do this summer, too.

So very cool and so very frugal
A fun couple of summer projects we do when family comes to visit is head to the woods with the kids to collect pine cones. We then spread the cones with cheapo peanut butter and roll in grass seed. We then return them to the woods for the animals to enjoy. The kids have a blast collecting the cones, ‘decorating’ them, then finding strategic places to place them for the critters.
We also pop up big batches of popcorn and string them up to hang from the trees for the birds to eat.
Both projects cheap, time-consuming and fun for everyone involved.

It’s amazing how far a little creativity will take you! Kids are not that hard to entertain, especially if you ‘sell’ the idea properly. I find that doing things with them that I already enjoy or used to enjoy as a kid is a lot of fun. My kids love it when I tell them “me and your Aunt Mary used to do….” as we play some of the same games.
Lovin’ summer, it won’t last as long as I want it to…
