I am proud to say that in the last 3yrs I have not had a single mismatched sock. I have one basket (blue milk crate) that stays on the dryer. Socks are placed in it as the load is pulled out of the dryer. Since my son is 10yrs and my daughter is 15yr we all wear the same size. I buy the same socks for everyone. WHITE ankle socks. There can be 15 or 40 socks in that basket, either way you are guaranteed to find a match!
Getting them all to the washer… that is another story.
