Counting My Blessings Once Again

I’m stunned that these children are all mine. There once was a time when we only thought we’d have one child. And here we are with six, pretty darn cute little babes.

When I get frustrated with fussy toddlers, insistent preschoolers, angry little boys, and angry little big boys, I’m reminded.

I’m so blessed that they are mine.

We may struggle, we may become impatient with one another, we may not do it all right, but we are rich — in one another. I’m counting my blessings today and smiling.

How can you count your blessings today?

  1. It can be easy to lose sight of the big picture sometimes can’t it? My 3 children (@ one on the way) are under the age of 5, and whenever I hear a comment about how “busy you must be!” – it reminds me of how blessed I am. Thanks for a great post & blog.

  2. So true and wow! Six kids.. Must be awesome! I just have the one toddler and sometimes get overwhelmed by everything. But then, I look at her, see her sleeping or playing, have her running to me for a hug, asking me to sing, “I Love You” for the nth time and it all seems so worth it!
Am blessed to be a mom.

  3. I am really enjoying your blog. I recently subscribed and this is my first time posting a comment. I feel very blessed with my kids too. I only have 3 – two year old twins and a 4 month old. Sometimes it can be frustrating but I am always feeling so much love and feeling very blessed.

  4. That’s funny, because prior to my “surprise” first baby, I didn’t want ANY children. None. I couldn’t STAND other people’s kids, and figured I wouldn’t like my own either.

I now have 5 children, and would have more if it was physically possible or if we had the room.

It’s funny how people think that when you have a big family, your children lack for personal attention. Our kids get more attention and are more bonded with us than most families I know that have 2-3 children.

  5. That’s so true. We have 3 kids under 3 – a set of twins that are almost 28 months old and a newborn that is 8 weeks old! We’re potty training the twins and there are some days where I can feel so overwhelmed and just out of control. Then I take a step back and realize how truly blessed I am to have this mass amount of chaos! I even pray that God will bless us with more children!

Your statement about how other people say “You must be so busy!” truly is a god sent reminder of how blessed you are. I think and feel the same way!

Children are so amazing and such a blessing! Even when they are screaming at me at the top of their lungs and tugging on my pants leg when not getting there way, while I’m feeding their baby brother :)

THANK YOU!!! Just what I needed to read today! :)

  7. Every time I think about something like this, being thankful, I’m so grateful that I have a safe apartment, with windows, clean water to drink, and a family (husband and cat) who love me. Oh, and fresh fruit in my lunch. :-)

  8. This post brought tears to my eyes this morning. Good to pause and say thank you, Lord. I needed this thought today. :)

  9. Aww, what a sweet family. We are indeed very blessed to be mamas!

  10. Thank you for your reminder to count my blessings! When life gets so busy, it is easy to forget to do just that! I am counting it a blessing that I found your post! :)

  11. Thank you!! This (and your previous post about only thinking you might have one child) was exactly what I needed today.

  12. Perfect. So often, I hear, “You have your hands full!” And I always just smile and think, “Better full than empty!” Because I AM so blessed. God knows what He’s doing. :)

  13. That’s a good reminder! Especially in the middle of frustration.

  14. Amen!

  15. A good reminder…. and a SUPER cute picture!! :)

    Such a good looking FishFamily!

  17. I’m a newer reader to the blog… this post (and your link back) were such an inspiration to me today. We were told we could have no kids, when we turned to adoption, we thought the expense would keep us at one child, but God has shown us that His plans are much greater! We now have four kids under four!

I wrote a bit today about why I’m thankful… based on the inspiration of your post. Here’s the link in case you are interested: http://www.livingwiththreeboys.com/2010/09/rainbows-and-thankfulness.html

Thank you so much for your candid honesty!

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."
