Losing It

FishPapa and I have been trying to get back into shape. We’ve fallen off the wagon, so to speak. So, time to reevaluate our goals and our eating habits.

My baby fat is now my own to claim. The baby is two.

We’re trying to eat better and get a little more exercise. But yet, I think back fondly to the days when it was so easy to lose weight — quickly. And I laugh!

Ah, if it were still that easy….

  1. Hubby and I started eating the South Beach way back in the end of January. Up to this point he has lost a little over 50 lbs. and I’ve lost around 23 lbs. However, we’ve gotten a little lax on diet and exercise over the summer (family vacations with a mother who was gifted in baking don’t help!), so now that we’re facing fall again, it’s time for us to get back on the treadmill and pull out the ol’ self-control again I guess. {sigh} I trust you and your hubby will find something that works for you guys – it has been a whole lot easier for us since we’ve been doing it together. It’s good to have a buddy to say, “no, you don’t want to eat that bag of cookies…” ;-)

  3. I hear ya! I have been back on my workout for a five weeks and I have lost 7 lbs. I wish it were 10 but I will take it:-)

  4. I started watching what I eat and exercising a little over a year ago. I’ve lost 45lbs so far but I’ve been plateaued since the beginning of summer. I’m trying to get back on the wagon and lose another 20 lbs by spring. I feel great about where I am, though. And on Saturday I am running my first half marathon…a feat I wouldn’t have even attempted a year ago!

  5. We are embarking on the same challenge in our house. Why does it go on so easy and quick and come off so slow with only hard work? Good luck to you!

  6. Good luck! I’ve had pretty good (but sloooowwww) success with Sparkpeople. I’m a data person, so I like the graphs and stuff they show me.

  7. Here’s an inspirational story of a 24 year old male losing 120 pounds.

  8. I remember that post from before- the memory made me smile! :) I’m re-adjusting my food intake because, well, now that G does not nurse all day long, I can’t just eat anything in the world and still wear a 6. It was nice while it lasted! ;)

  9. I hear ya sister. Yes, I too have to own that baby fat. There’s nothing like having to wear a bridesmaid dress to give you motivation to workout. Last night I watched “Dancing with the Stars” while doing a workout DVD that I had playing on our portable DVD player. It made working out just a little less painless…and easier to fit into my schedule!

  10. I am trying to eat more healthy “real” food and do the Biggest Loser 30 day jumpstart video workout. I can’t run due to really bad feet.

  11. I know the feeling! My baby is 5 and I have absolutely no excuse anymore. :oP

  12. The old story about losing 20 made me laugh right out loud! Since having my third baby I can’t seem to shed this weight as fast. It is literally like a bowl full of jiggly jelly sitting on my stomach. It is awful! I LOVE to walk it is just getting it worked into my schedule. Good luck to you and Fish Papa!

  13. I feel exactly the same. I lost it when I was breastfeeding the Princess. Went back below my pre-pregnancy weight in fact. But then I quit breastfeeding at the beginning of the year, and went back on BC and now I am 15 lbs more than December holiday weight (which was a little over than normal).

    I need to LOSE IT!

I have been swimming laps for the last month, and it is sort of helping but I think I need to do more cardio.

I wish it was easy. ;)

  14. It must be going around, as my hubby and I have been having similar conversations. (and my “baby” is two now as well, so yeah, time to claim that baby weight as my own LOL)

  15. Hi FishMamma! I am a health educator with a special focus on weight loss and whole, healthy eating. Here are some ideas that might help you out: http://www.healthybychoices.blogspot.com, including one on target heart rate. Good luck with your efforts!

  16. “How I Lost 20 lbs.”…is my favorite post. EVER. I sent that to everyone I know :-) and I refer to it frequently. I’m with you on the “can’t eat what i want, when i want” movement…it’s hard to be a adult sometimes….I finally figured out that indulging myself whenever I feel entitled (which is basically, daily), is just selfish and not what God wants for me. So now I try to say “no to self” (vs. “note to self”) more than I say “yes” – at least on the food front!

Thanks for the laugh today :-)
