Grocery Geek Presents: Black Friday Deals

Well, just in case I got a wild hair to join the Black Friday crowd, I threw out my back, putting my turkey in the oven on Thursday. I was most definitely housebound. But, that doesn’t mean I didn’t nab some good deals. And I did it without leaving the house. I LOVE online shopping deals.

Here’s what I bought this weekend while eating a lovely plate of Thanksgiving leftovers:

Amazon Deals

LEGO Ultimate Building Set – this huge bucket of Legos for $15 on Amazon. My boys, prompted by FishBoy13’s creative library searches, have recently discovered more ways to use Legos, thanks to the different books that are available for designing Lego creations.

This set will help fill out some of the generic building pieces that we might want, plus make a great group gift for the FBA. (Thanks for the heads up, Money Saving Mom!)

I’ve had my eye on both Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and Quicken Deluxe 2011. So when Amazon sent me emails that both were on sale (up to 1/2 off) and one even had a rebate, well, I knew the time was right.

And since I have a three month trial to Amazon Mom, I got free 2-day shipping on all my Amazon purchases. Yeah!

Old Navy and ShopatHome

Shirts, jackets, and pants were $5 and $15 at Old Navy. While many of our younger set have clothes coming out their ears, us older folk, hubs, me, and FishBoy13, needed a few replacements. I got my oldest son a winter coat for $15 and stocked hubs up on $5 tshirts for work. As for me, I got fleece jammie pants for $5 because I’m freezing around here.

I used ShopAtHome to get extra money off the deal. (Thanks again to Money Saving Mom for the tip!)

Did you shop Black Friday, shop at home, or abstain for shopping altogether?

  1. My 6’8 hubby and I braved the crowds and stocked up on his Big & Tall clothes!

And I did sneak in a quick trip to The Limited. They had 40% off everything in store (including clearance!) and an extra 15% for students and educators. Since my husband works in a school district, we got and extra 55% off clearance prices. Woo hoo!

  2. I hit a few Amazon deals and some sweaters at Children’s Place, but my favorite was the electric griddle I got for $6.00 after rebate at Kohl’s. I’ve been wanting one for a long time, but haven’t wanted to shell out 40+ bucks to get it.

  3. I stayed in bed until 5:15 and then hit wal-mart and target after the inital surge or people were in and done and I still got what I wanted. $9 jeans for the hubs, $8 coat for our 5 y/o at wal-mart and the $19 griddle and $7 throw pillow set at target. I HAD to replace my griddle. I use it almost daily and it was worn out :)

  4. We went out around 8 in the morning and got a couple of things on our list. The deals for the things my children want for Christmas weren’t exceptional so we were not too concerned if we didnt’ get them on Black Friday, but it was snowing softly and the town is all decorated for Christmas, couldn’t resist heading out with my husband to do a little holiday shopping :)

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
