I only make it twice a year. But, my family starts doing cartwheels when I bring out the ingredients.
My husband who doesn’t really like sweets could eat the whole pan. My brother, who hates dessert, even tried it and LOVED it at Thanksgiving. My children start to chant the words, “Pretzel Berry! Pretzel Berry!” when dessert time approaches
Simple ingredients: cream cheese, Cool Whip (yes, really); Jell-O (yes, that, too); frozen berries, pretzels, butter, and a little sugar.
In some parts of the country, they call this a salad. In our neck of the woods, it’s clearly dessert.
It’s original name is Strawberry Pretzel Dessert, but over the years I’ve adjusted it. I use less sugar in the pretzel crust, more cream cheese and less Cool Whip in the middle layer, and cranberry Jell-O and boysenberries in the top.
It most definitely works for us. And while we love it immensely, I make it twice a year — on Thanksgiving and at Christmas. That’s part of what makes it special.
