Celebrating The End of the School Year
Posted By Jessica Fisher On May 26, 2011 @ 10:43 am In Homeschooling,Learning,Public Schooling | 4 Comments
Today is the last day of our school year. We began in early August and have clocked more than 180 instructional days. So, today wraps up the end of our “formal schooling” for the year.
What this looks like at our house is that the kids can sleep in a little longer, that they can take a break from full-day lessons and assignments, and that we can all relax a little more since there are fewer things on each person’s “to do” list.
But, it doesn’t mean that lessons or learning completely cease. In fact, each of my boys will be working on one or two subjects most days over the next couple months. The boys have all agreed to this being a good thing; no one feels forced. They know that keeping up with math, reading, and science studies will be good for them when Back to School time rolls around again in a couple months.
Having a distinct ending and beginning helps kids to see the passage of time. It also encourages them that they’ve accomplished good things this past year.
Whether you homeschool, private school, or public school, a year end celebration is a great way to mark the passage of time and to acknowledge the year’s accomplishments.
