The Grocery Geek is Back (with a Little Help from Her Mom)

So, while my dad gifted me and my family with an all-day eat-athon on my birthday, my mom dug me out of a hole! Not only did she do umpteenth loads of laundry and match every sock, but she also sat at the kitchen table with me clipping coupons! I had months’ worth of inserts to catch up on, and we did it all.

Not only that, but then we went to Ralphs to cruise the sales. It was so much easier with a full coupon bag. Here’s what we got:

Some of the highlights:

  • mushrooms on markdown – $1.69
  • peppers on markdown – $0.99
  • ham steaks on markdown $2.19
  • ice cream on sale minus coupons – $1 to $1.50 per package
  • Peets coffee on sale minus coupons sent from a reader – $6.99 (Thank you, Michelle!)
  • and some misc.

Certainly this isn’t everything we’ve consumed over the last week, but obviously some of the top deals. Plus, Mom paid when all was said and done. Thanks, Mom!

Did you nab any good deals this week?

  1. We actually hit a great buy last night when we found Mt. Olive dill relish in small containers for $1.06. We received a couple 75 cents off 1 and a handful of $1 off 2 a while back that I’ve been saving for the right time. We used all the coupons and got them for 25 or 56 cents each.

I also picked up some Lunchables (used as a special treat now and then) on sale for $1 but we a couple $1 off 2 coupons so it made them 50 cents each.

  2. Wow! GO MOM!!!!!!

  3. We are grocery shopping today. Double coupons!! Two 60 oz. All Detergent with sale and double coupons: $5.60!!! That’s .05/oz….normally .08:-) Go Pick N Save!!!

What a wonderful birthday present! Laundry and coupons caught up at the same time! I could only wish! Although I’m only a week behind on laundry and a month on coupons, I’m trying to do a little each day but it still sort of snowballs into overwhelming! I hope to be caught up this weekend :)

  5. What would we do without moms?!

  6. Jen Fitzpatrick says:

Aren’t moms the best. Mine hasn’t been able to come up to visit for the last 3 years or so and that’s one of the things I miss. I remember when my first child was born, she would send me clothes for him, already washed and put in ziploc bags to stay clean in the mail. What a treat that was!

  7. Oh Grocery Geek how I have missed you! I bought the same pack of peppers this week at the grocery store for $2.99. Man, I wish we had something like a Ralph’s around here! Nice to hear a good lady like yourself was treated so well on her 1st 39th!!!

@Janet, thanks so much for your kinds words. Yes, I’m very grateful for my parents.

And just to reassure you, the recent post about meat was actually a reprint from three years ago. When we were in debt, I served meat sparingly. These days it’s a daily occurrence. Thanks for your concern!

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
