Eating Fresh with Del Monte Fresh Produce

I love to serve a fresh fruit platter or fruit salad at dessert. It’s like fruits are the candy that God invented. That must be why it’s so much easier to get kids to eat fruit as opposed to vegetables.

Some of our favorite dishes with fresh fruit:

Fruit is so good. It could almost replace chocolate.

Almost.

Every Monday fans can vote for their favorite teacher. Winners will receive “cash for classrooms” as well as free fruit to share with their students. Now, that’s pretty sweet. 8. I love raspberries warm from the bush–just on their own. :-)

  16. Watermelon is our favorite! I cut it up into bite-size chunks and store it in a bowl in the fridge so it’s easy grab for a snack. Yum!!

  17. I love fresh pineapple. We usually just slice it up and serve it in a bowl. It’s delicious with some greek yogurt or cream cheese fruit dip. Smoothies are awesome too!

  18. We weekly have smoothies and add in whatever fresh fruit we have. The kids consider it a treat to get fruit at meal time or for a snack. And any kind of fruit crisp is SO yummy.

  19. My favorite fruit changes with the season….right now with the sudden onset of fall where I live it’s wine-poached pears. Mmmmmmm.

  20. I am sorry to say that I have never met a fruit I didn’t like! My favorite way to serve fruit is a big platter full of what ever fresh, colorful, sweet, juicy goodness I can find. My family just LOVES it!

  21. Right now my favorite is cherries, both canned and in sorbet because fresh cherries are out of season. Peaches are delicious right now too!

  22. Strawberries are my favorite fresh fruit with peaches in close second. Fresh pies are a delicious way to serve them.

  23. Grapes – the perfect snack. Sweet or slightly tart. Grab a handful and go.

  30. Grilled peaches!

  31. I am lucky that my boys will eat anything but they do some damage with fruit – right now it would be rasberries and they eat bananas and grapes for a bedtime snack and breakfast – we serve them fruit rather than junk and they never ask for anything else

  32. Strawberries and peaches, here! Straight up fresh!

  33. Strawberries are my favorite, and I eat them plain. Or, if I want to be decadent, I dip them in chocolate.

  34. I love nectarines! This season where I live on the North Shore of Lake Superior is so short that we eat them every day for as long as they are good! I serve them in fruit salad or just cut into pieces by them selves. Certainly a dessert created especially for me by my Lord!

  35. I love sliced strawberries! They are perfect as is, but sometimes I serve them with blueberries and grapes to make an easy “salad” and the kids gobble it up.

  36. Charity Shapiro says:

We love fresh strawberries and pineapple and put them in smoothies.

  56. Apples in sauce, pies, cobblers, and crumbles!

  57. Stawberries mixed with blueberries.

  58. Apples…my whole family loves simply sliced apples.

  59. Mangoes are my favorite! With my parents being from Mexico, we grew up eating them. We eat them sliced into 3 sections, cross-hatching the sides and turning them inside out. The “pit piece” has to be eaten straight with your hands, ending up with juice all over your face! Ahhh…!

  60. Depends on the time of year! We love strawberries & in the spring my boys will eat gallon buckets of them plain, in addition to me making jam, strawberry pie, strawberry muffins, etc. In the fall we get apples from the local orchard & I bake them, make pies & dumplings, cook them & of course eat them plain!

  61. All Summer fruit, but especially blueberries, rasberries, nectarines, and white peaches. I like to eat them just as they are.

We love all fresh fruit, but we especially enjoy strawberries and pineapple cut up raw.

  67. My family devours fruit! I may slice and place on a plate or in a bowl as a fruit salad. Sometimes plain or dipped in yogurt. Other times I wash, dry and either put in a fruit bowl or in the fridge and we just eat as we please. Freezing chunks w puree is becoming a big deal here too. Nothing compares to fresh fruit, nothing!

Our favorite fruits around here are apples, grapes, and bananas. Our favorite way to serve them is just as they are.

We do just about every fruit, in smoothies and jams but my sons very favorite is pineapple in cubes.. he likes every part of it, its texture and its taste.

  71. I love all fresh fruits! But if I had to choose one it would be raspberries, no, pineapple….wait, passion fruit…blackberries…melon. This is such a hard choice! I guess I’ll stick with the raspberries with pineapple a very close second. :)

  72. Pineapple is my favorite. I like it slightly chilled, but I won’t turn away from chocolate covered either :-)

  73. I really enjoy a juicy, sweet peach – with still a little bit of firmness to the fruit instead of being really soft and mushy. My current favorite way to eat it is chopped with vanilla yogurt and homemade granola. This week, we even layered this in clear sundae glasses with a small topping of whipped cream. The kids loved it! And, the two who didn’t? I dumped theirs into the blender with a little fruit juice and a few frozen strawberries and they ate it that way *unknown to them*. :)

  74. My favorite fruit to ear without any additions is watermelon. My favorite fruit to use in dishes is blueberries. I love to make waffles and such with fresh blueberries.

  88. I love fresh strawberries and kiwi sliced and mixed up together in a bowl. YUM!

  89. Peaches – sliced and without the skins!

  90. Nectarines are my personal favorite, I eat them just the way God made them. My kiddos discovered honeydew this summer so that has become one of our regular side dishes lately. I use my Pampered Chef scoop to make melon balls…it is *so* much faster than cutting it up!

  91. I love fruit, but for my kids their top choice would be strawberries. At 4, 3, and 1 they already know that I won’t buy it unless it’s in season, though, so strawberries are a May-July treat at our house.

  92. I love to use fresh fruit for smoothies, as well as “fruit pizza”.

  93. I love mango, bananas, and strawberries served any way, but especially in a fruit smoothie or in a fresh fruit salad…

  95. My favorite fruit is a peach in season. Nothing better. Doesn’t need anything to serve it with. Just slice and eat. Yummo!

  121. I love strawberries- just plain or in any dessert!

  122. oh man, 1 favorite? That’s hard. I’d have to say a peach fresh off the tree, still warm from the sun. It’s a short window of time when they are available here in Michigan, which of course, makes them all the sweeter!

  123. I haven’t met a fruit I didn’t like! If I had to pick only one though I would choose grapes. IMO they are the perfect finger food!

  129. cathi carpenter says:

    Love the post!
My very favorite fruit has got to be BANANAS! My big favorite way, is no BIGGIE at all… I slice them thick, freeze them on a cookie sheet and then keep a freezer full of them in bags to nibble on at night. They are so solid that they are like “hard candy” and they keep me from other snacks!

Strawberries! Usually we serve them by themselves, but occasionally we’ll do strawberry shortcake or our new favorite, strawberry rhubarb pie!! Don’t forget to make it a la mode…yum!

  148. I loved your story about your china. When I was a child, I simply adored my grandmother’s dishes. She always said they would be mine one day. Like you, they were her everyday dishes, but unlike your mother-in-law, my Nanny as we called her, always had family around her. Everyone was family to her. We had Sunday dinners with my grandparents when I was very young and all the family was there, and so were those dishes. The only thing really special about them was they were hers and they were coated in love. My grandfather passed and she moved into one apartment after another and at first the dishes were always there. Finally the time came for her to move to assisted living and her kitchen was broken down and the zillion butter bowls, jelly jars and odds and ends were distributed among the family or tossed. I got what was left of her dishes, one cup a cracked salad plate and cracked bowl. It was so sad to see them like that, but I still have all those memories of food, family and so much love. No I never got to serve my family off those precious dishes, BUT my family got to know, love and adore my Nanny every bit as much as I did and I wouldn’t trade for even a second.

  149. Fruit. I love it all. Pears, pomegranates and Pomelos. Christmas apples, oranges and cranberries. Spring berries. Summer melons, pineapple and mangoes… what’s not to like. But as a kid my maternal grandfather had pear trees. Nothing like you can buy in the grocery stores. These were firm, crisp, juicy pieces of fruit the left you with juice all over your shirt front. We’d pick them by the grocery bag full and take them home and even feed a few to the cows. Every day when we came home from school we’d have a pear with a spoon of peanut butter. It’s as much a part of back-to-school memories as new cloths, notebooks and crayons, for me.
The pears I get in the store don’t compare but a fresh sliced pair with a spoon of peanut butter is still my favorite and I love to serve it to people that have never experienced the combo. As a pre-k/kindergarten teacher it was a treat I shared with my class every year.

  150. Thank you for the great job you do on this site and for the giveaway! Love all fruits except mangoe and papaya and kiwi. 162. I guess I am a pureist. I love mango fresh, and slightly chilled.

  163. Michelle Orndorff says:

Our family’s favorite fruit would have to be pineapple. Usually I cut it into chunks and serve in a bowl, but for special occasions I will quarter the pineapple lengthwise and carve into “boats”.
Apples are another crowd pleaser at our house. I slice up a sampling of all the varieties available in the fall.

  164. I just like to make a “salad” of washed cut up strawberries, red and green grapes and and apple and maybe pinneapple if I have it. The kids and adults love this! It is a great snack or side dish.

  165. My favorite fruit is strawberries. We love all of our fruit fresh, but chilled. Love to mix a fruit salad with cut-up strawberries, blueberries, apples, pineapple and grapes. 177. I love pineapple. I love to eat fresh pineapple with a cream cheese based dip made with cream cheese, marshmallow fluff and the juice from the pineapple. I also just like it plain by itself.
