A Giveaway from Bob’s Red Mill

Whole wheat pastry flour is a great way to add punch to your baked goods. Enter to win a free bag from Bob’s Red Mill.

One of my favorite products to use in baking is whole wheat pastry flour. Not only is it healthier for you than all-purpose flour since it contains the whole grain, but it is also specifically designed for delicate baked goods, ones that contain baking soda or baking powder instead of yeast. Regular whole wheat flour is often a little too coarse and “wheaty” for quick breads.

I regularly use it in the following recipes:

While it doesn’t make dessert “good for you,” it can pack a more powerful punch than conventional flour. As a friend mentioned recently [7] using whole wheat pastry flour “feels guilt-free.”

Since I use it so often to give my recipes a little nutritional boost, many of you have asked where to find this. Typically I buy it at my local health food store — on sale this week for $3 a bag! You can also order whole wheat pastry flour from Azure Standard [8], Amazon [9], and VitaCost [10].

One of my favorite brands of whole wheat pastry flour is produced by Bob’s Red Mill [11], sponsor of A Simpler Season [12]. Each December my health foods store runs a sale on this flour and I stock up at that time. The flour is packed in sturdy bags that help protect its shelf life.

Bob’s Red Mill [11] manufactures whole grain foods for every meal of the day. You can visit Bob’s Red Mill Natural Foods [11] to see their extensive line of whole grain flours, cereals and baking mixes and to view their line of over 70 certified gluten free products. I really like it that stores as basic as Walmart stock a number of Bob’s Red Mill products. Their medium grind corn meal goes great in my Buttermilk Cornbread [3].

This week Bob’s Red Mill is giving away bags of whole wheat pastry flour to five Life as MOM readers.
