Get Your Reusable Water Bottles Ready to Go (& a Giveaway from Contigo)

It used to be that I had a hoard of bottled water in my car and in the garage. It was easy to cart water that way. Quick, too. It was right there with us all the time.

However, disposable plastic bottles aren’t good for the environment, and in some cases can emit harmful chemicals into the water we’re about to drink. Not cool.

Plus, they are more expensive! Here in California, they charge an extra tax on bottled items. Supposedly you can recoup it, but there are hoops to jump. Even elsewhere, buying bottles that you throw away over and over is easily more expensive than using refillable bottles.

Over the years, we’ve been switching to reusable water bottles. There’s less waste when using a reusable water bottle.

But, sometimes it’s hard to make it work for you. Like this?

This is the plastic bottle avalanche. This week I decided to do something about it.

This was better:

Corralling all the water bottles in a tub next to the fridge makes for easy refilling.

This, however, was best:

I filled all the bottles and lined them up in the fridge. They’re all ready to go on an outing or to the pool!

You would not believe how much more water my kids drank this week thanks to this handy trick. And they absolutely love these new bottles we were sent from Contigo.

I knew my girls would fight over who got the purple one, so I switched the tops and bottoms. Everyone gets purple now. Hehe.

These are great cups! The girls keep filling them and drinking them down. I never knew a new cup would make a kid drink more!

Here are some of the details:

  • 100% BPA FREE. Made with polypropylene (PP) #5.
  • Patented AUTOSEAL® lid is 100% leak-proof and 100% spill-proof. Lid is also one piece, meaning no loose parts.
  • Drinking made easy! Press to sip. Release to seal. The AUTOSEAL® Kids Trekker Cup automatically seals between sips to ensure no spills.
  • Easy-grip shape makes this kidscup easy to hold for smaller hands.
  • Top-rack dishwasher-safe.

I didn’t know I would like these as much as I do. But, the fact that my girls are drinking more water is proof positive. And since some of our bottles have been spilling all over the pool bag, I’m even more jazzed about the no-spill quality of these cups.

  1. We love Contigo water bottles! All of us drink a ton more water with these water bottles. I agree, having them filled and ready to go makes a huge difference.

  2. My kids need a more convenient water bottle. Right now we use stainless steel ones but they tip easily because they are tall and top heavy. These sound great.
    Have a lovely day.
    Kim

  3. we love our contigo bottles. and although our toddlers will drink out of the big ones, smaller sizes would be great. hope these show up at costco!

  4. Great giveaway! I started giving each kid a filled reusable water bottle each day and they have been drinking so much more water. I was the worst for drinking water until I started doing this for myself too!

  5. We love contigo water bottles, and the coffee mugs are my favorite, I don’t use any other travel mugs, and I use them around the house constantly.

I have a feeling that if I tried to keep filled water bottles in the fridge I would be constantly filling them….

    • Jessica Fisher says:

I do it as soon as they come out of the dishwasher. After that, the kids are on their own to refill.

  6. I bought my girls cheap water bottles when the last lid would no longer stay on the sippy cup. They have been a disaster. I can’t count the times I have ended up soaking wet from them leaving the spout open and it tipping over. The worst is when they leave the whole 18oz bottle tipped over on the floor which is all carpet.

Do the Contigo bottles have some kind of valve? How are they to clean? What age do you think would be the min. to be able to drink from them?

    • Jessica Fisher says:

They’ve been great for no leaks and easy to clean. But, I’m a stickler not to let them have anything but water in water bottles. Now that we’re past the sippy cups, I want no more science experiments.

  7. jessica says:

we do the lid switching thing too!

  8. I LOVE Contigo! We have two and I use both of them…if I drink them both and my cup both in the AM and PM, then I have reached 8 cups of water, hooray! I love how I don’t have to worry about my bottle spilling, either.

I don’t like how topheavy it is when it’s empty…but that just makes me go fill it up quicker!
