Take a Hike

I’m not sure if it’s old age or what, but being out in nature has become more appealing to me than it once was. It might be that my kids are getting big enough to do outdoorsy things besides the up and down on the slide or the swings.

(I confess to being extremely bored on a park playground.)

Now that we can go for longer walks, even hikes, being out of doors is refreshing to me. My mind and body almost yearn for it.

Being outside is a great way to pause daily life, reset one’s hard drive, and return to business refreshed. Not only do are we forced to look far and near, but we get a chance to explore in a very hands-on way.

Taking a hike or walk is a great way to stop and smell the roses.

The days are long, but the years are short. I don’t want to miss them! For more short and sweet ideas on how to stop and smell the roses, to enjoy the little things in life, check out my 31 Days to Smell the Roses series.

  1. Hi Jessica,

I was so excited when I went to my mailbox today and found your cookbook in it from Amazon! Hooray!! Now this is one cookbook that won’t be collecting dust! I love your recipes and can’t wait to begin trying them. Thank you for all of your hard work and your blog :). Have fun celebrating!!!!!!
    K. :)

  2. Oh, lady, I GET you. I’m not a great playground mama either. But I adore getting out and walking/exploring with my family. We are in a season in which our children love to hike with us and, because we do it all the time, they have the endurance to handle 5-6 mile hikes through the mountains. I love these adventures together and I love that it helps us be healthy together!

  3. I have always felt bad that I got so bored at the playground, I would much rather hike! Got your cookbook, it is awesome! Thanks so much for all your work!

When I realized this recently, I mentioned it to my husband. He feels the same way! LOL. Good thing that we’ve kept it a secret from ourselves and our kids both.
