DIY on a Dime: Chocolate Marshmallow Eggs

Dipping marshmallows in chocolate is a classic way to combine two great flavors. Egg-shaped marshmallows and sprinkles make it all the more fun.

During a recent trip to Target, I stumbled across a bag of jumbo egg-shaped marshmallows [4]. While we don’t do The Bunny around here, I do like eggs as a symbol of new life at Easter. These marshmallows, despite their questionable ingredients, spoke to me. I brought them home along with some chocolate for melting and some spring-like sprinkles.

What resulted — after days of listening to my kids pester me about when we were going to do the marshmallow eggs — was a very fun treat and craft to do with my twelve and under set. I don’t know if my teenager would have been interested, he was gone when we did them. He didn’t look disappointed. He’s often just happy to eat the fruits of our labor. My niece saw the picture on Instagram [5] and immediately requested that they make them at my sister’s house.

These are fun for kids and adults alike!

I am proud to say that I only licked some chocolate off my fingers; I have not yet indulged in a bonafide dessert since going off the Whole 30. [6]

This treat/craft is easy and cheap, depending on how elaborate you want to get and what ingredients you have on hand.

The kids and I had a blast making these together. We each got creative in our own ways.

One little girl was generous in her sprinkling. One young man created religious art by creating mosaic crosses with round flat sprinkles. Another just wanted to know when he could eat! Several of us really enjoyed making a marbled effect with the two colors of chocolate.

Each child really enjoyed his dessert afterward. There was a limit of one per person. I hope to gift some to the neighbors soon!
