There’s no doubt about it. Busting out the measuring spoons takes time. It adds minutes to your kitchen prep time. Wouldn’t it be so much easier just to open a packet of commercial seasoning mix? No measuring!

Well, as you may know, my heart belongs to homemade. I think that in most cases, homemade tastes better and is better for you. So, that’s my goal 90% of the time.

That said, the spice mix certainly does look appealing, doesn’t it? You can sprinkle it on grilling meats, in ground beef mixtures, into casseroles, and in salad dressings. A spice mix allows you freedom of flavor without chaining you to a set of measuring spoons.

But, those spice mixes are usually pretty pricey. That makes a strong argument for buying them in bulk.

Well, you can have the best of both worlds.

Make your own spice blends.

If you take a few minutes once a month or so and mix up your favorite taco seasoning, Greek spice blend, or other flavorful spice mix, you will buy yourself some extra time.

Try one of these on for size:

So sure, it will take you five minutes to mix up a big batch of spice mix, but the rewards will be huge. You’ll earn that five minutes back many times over.
