The Path of Least Resistance (Frugal Friday)

fast food

Today’s tip is probably not very frugal. But, it may save you thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Yesterday was rough. As I explained to the folks on Facebook, it was not without excitement: back pain, Urgent Care with my daughter, husband injured, two hockey practices. The hours between 3 pm — when I realized we needed to go to Urgent Care — and 6 when the first practice was scheduled, were spent in waiting rooms and pharmacy lines.

And I left the house without a real meal plan in action. Even though I started the week with a meal plan, things CLEARLY have not gone as planned this week. One son and I texted while I was at CVS, debating our choices. In the end I chose the fast food taco place located on the way home from the pharmacy.

  • Was it cheap? Yeah, we all ate for about $20. Not bad for 8 people.
  • Was it the cheapest thing we could do? No, certainly not. I can cook a feast at home for 20 bucks.
  • Was it the sanest approach to dinner after a hard afternoon? Yes, ma’am.

Sometimes taking the easiest route, the path of least resistance, is the best one for the circumstances at hand. Don’t drive yourself crazy in the name of frugality. Don’t extend yourself past what you can reasonably bare just to save a buck or two.

Be wise. And sometimes choose the easier  way, even if it costs a little more.

What do YOU think?

How do you handle trying moments like these?

  1. Well, I sure hope today is better for you!

And just be thankful you could make life simpler by going out. Sometimes we need to be reminded that frugality should not be our idol and just go with the flow.

Like earlier this week when I was out and suddenly needed to buy new clothes because, well, pads are not made absorbent enough for premenopausal ladies and going home was not an option. I got some nice new pants out of the deal, though. LOL

And you got a nice taco meal and a break from cooking…which you really needed.

God is good, sometimes in very unexpected ways.

  2. I agree! Sometimes life does not go as planned, and you have to roll w the punches.

You did the right thing, Jessica. I like to order pizza when it gets hectic around here. I am not on facebook, so I am wondering what happened to your daughter and how your back is doing. Praying you have a better day today.
    God bless, Kathy in Illinois

  4. as I say…sometimes, you just got to order a pizza :)

    wishes for speedy recoveries!
