Oatmeal is one of my favorite meals. It’s weird, though, because I never ever ate it as a child. My mom and dad weren’t fans as children, so they never made their kids eat it. They didn’t eat it, either, until I shared my Not Mushy Oatmeal recipe with them. Now, my mom eats oatmeal almost every day.

May wonders never cease.

Over the last year or two I’ve become a huge fan of steel-cut oats. I didn’t think I would like them, but FishPapa was buying them every day at a local smoothie shop — and paying a small fortune. I googled how to replicate them and now we make them ourselves at home. Trick: Soak the oats overnight and then cook them quickly on the stove the next morning. The nutty goodness is amazing, especially with cream and maple syrup. Mmmmm.

You know that I’m a big fan of Bob’s Red Mill. Even before I started working with them in a “professional capacity”, Bob has had his own shelf in my refrigerator. I love that the products are all-natural, GMO-free, and whole grain. Bob’s is THE kind of steel-cut oats that we keep stocked all the time. (I buy them in bulk via Amazon Subscribe and Save.)

Currently, Bob’s Red Mill is running their Fourth Annual Spar for the Spurtle Recipe Contest. The contest runs through August 15th. The prizes are pretty awesome. Check this out: First place: $5000, Second place: $2500, Third place: $1000
