I received a package from the Harvard Common Press last week. What a fun surprise to get an advance copy of my new book in the mail! Since I took all the pictures and created all the recipes, it feels like a step up in terms of accomplishments, you know?

Who woulda thunk it?

While I had seen many different versions of the book’s development, I didn’t really know how it would turn out in the flesh. I am thrilled! I love the way the designer Elizabeth Van Itallie assembled it all.

I love the graphics. I love the feel of the fonts. I love how the colors she chose complement and reflect the food as well as my wedding dishes.

I love those dishes. They may not last everyday use with six kids, but now they’re immortalized in one of my books. How’s that for a family scrapbook?!

The only thing I don’t love is my hair in the author photo. But, that is no one’s fault but my own.

It’s a wild thing. Twenty years ago I dreamt of writing a cookbook and here’s my third! How did I get here?

Broiled Bruschetta

I told you last week my guiding question: are we making the most of it? I thought about that a lot as I wrote this book. That was my driving purpose: how to make the most of a grocery budget in order to enjoy healthy, wholesome, real food. You’ll have to tell me if I accomplished my goal.

I love good food. I hate debt. In years past, I made one the priority at the risk of the other. What I realized by our getting out of debt is that you can have both great food and fair prices. You don’t have to sacrifice one for the other.

The book is packed with over 200 budget-friendly recipes as well as 100 tips for saving money on food costs to help you eat well and spend less. You know how I love to do that.
