    Wow you are so pretty in that picture! This was a fun post!

  2. I have a random question…How do you guys pronounce "Jace" ?

    I'm asking b/c everyone in my husband's family has J names too, and I have thought of Jacey for a girl's name but I have never heard it (or anything similar before).

  3. I would pronounce it J-Ace. Like the "ace" of hearts. :o)

    …and I, too, can name all 50 states – in aphabetical order. Thanks Mrs. Russel (elementary music teacher)! :o)

  4. Michelle says:

    These are just teasers. What was the question you answered and how did you answer it?

    Where are your kids named after? We name our middle names after attributes of God…although we did use Hebrew last time.

  5. noelnjen says:

    1. I too am the oldest of 5 children whose names begin with J: Jennifer, Jason, Jacob, Jessica, & Joshua. My dad's name is Joe.

    2. I love dinner leftovers for lunch. Or breakfast. Or snack.

    3. I was in a teen pageant in North Dakota in 1989. I usually block that out, but your weird facts stirred up the memory.

    4. I can only identify the states on a map.

    5. I have worked in a public library, a power plant, as a tutor, in a department store, in a law library, at a computer manufacturer, and for a frozen food company. I now work at home taking care of my sons.

    6. My sons are all named after Godly men (some biblical, some not) and their middle names are after family members.

    7. As a mother of boys, I love reading about the FIshBoy adventures and all things Lego & Lightsaber!

  6. FishMama says:

    Stephanie, you're very sweet. Thanks. I'm not super crazy about the sleeves, though.

    Jace does ryhmes with Ace. Many people think it's short for "Jason," but it's not.

    Michelle, I'm such a tease, aren't? The question was "if you could go anywhere, where would you go?" Instead of saying "France" because that had been my lifelong dream, I said something oh-so-corny like "DC" because I could be an ambassador for America. I'm trying to block it out.

    As for my kids' names, I'm sorry I can't share that – I try to keep a little bit anonymity for them. But, think about names like Bethany, that are cities that sound like "real names," too.

    Jen, sounds like we have a lot in common! The boys' middles names are after godly men like Ravi Zacharias, CS Lewis, Jonathan Edwards, and William Tyndale.

  7. TopazTook says:

    I can recite the alphabet backwards. And I remember drooling over dresses like that in the prom dress advertisements in "Seventeen."

  8. Danielle (Life with the Hewitt Family) says:

    Great list of things to share. That picture is great! There is a song we used to sing in Elementary School – 50 Nifty United States – I can still sing it to this day. It is in my head now so I will probably be singing it all day. It is a catchy tune!

  9. FishMama says:

    50 Nifty United States from 13 original colonies

    50 Nifty stars in the flag that billow so beautifully in the breeze!

    You know my secret!

  10. I love your picture on this blog post. Very pretty!
    Let's see what I can come up with…LOL!

    1. I too am the oldest, but there are only two of us…my brother and me. And everyone in my family has the same initials: GJK (Gregory Jackson Klemp Sr., Gloria Jean Klemp, Gregory Jackson Klemp Jr., and me, Gina Jane`t Klemp (middle name is pronounced Zhunay). I've been married and divorced, but I still go by my married last name so I have the same last name as my son: Koston. So I still have the initials GJK.

    2. I wanted to name my son D'artanian (he's the so-called "fourth musketeer" in Alexandre Dumas's classic swashbuckler novel The Three Musketeers), but my husband at the time didn't like it, so we agreed on Cody.

    3. I took 12 years of piano lessons and trained to be a concert pianist, but gave it up when I turned drinking age and thought partying was more fun. (If only I could go back and change my way of thinking on this one)! I can still play the piano, but nowhere near like I used to.

    4. I took voice lessons in high school and I have my very own karaoke machine… I love to sing contemporary Christian music and the Carpenters music.

    5. I have worked in many places, which include but are not limited to: Gas stations, grocery stores, factories, miniature golf course, State of Wisconsin DWD, State of WI DOA (currently work here), Bartender (currently still do this), real estate agency, etc, etc.

    6. And lastly, I was a contestant in the Wautoma, Wisconsin Winterfest my senior year in HS (Class of 1990). I didn't win…my boyfriend's step-sister won…but it was a blast!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    BTW…what was the question you didn't answer honestly in the T.E.E.N. pageant, if you don't mind me asking?
  11. "Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut…" will be stuck in my head today now.
    LOVE the photo. What's wrong with the sleeves?? ;)
    Funky fact: I love being a stay-at-home mom, but I haven't a clue what I'm doing in the kitchen! (Shh, the kids haven't figured it out yet, and I'm hoping to improve by the time they hit puberty)
  12. Intentionally Katie (3 Blondes and a Redhead) says:
    A few horrible Biblical city names just came to mind and as I was about to say something cute about one, I was struck with the fact that we have NO idea what your children's names are and I could deeply offend you! I'm sure you've laughed at some of the possibilities while picking each baby name. There are some crazy ones in that big ol' book!
  13. Well, for starters, I am an ONLY child with 10 children of my own!!
    My mother drove a lemon-yellow VW Beetle all my growing up years. Horrors!
    I have lived in 2 towns in my life…5 minutes apart!
    Hubby and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary in August. In this day and age, that's pretty rare!
    Fun topic, Jessica!
    Dawn in SC
  14. My previous main job (in the day before kids) was mechanical engineer! I even hold a patent. That seems like another person, long long ago, in a land far, far away. I've been a SAHM for 10 years now.
  15. Justina says:
    I am a Christian school teacher, and I taught my 3rd graders that every year when I taught U.S. History. They LOVED it! The reason I taught them–my 5th grade teacher taught me! Sharing knowledge is wonderful, and I thank you for doing that, too!
  16. Hey just found your blog and I have to jump in…
    I too can say the alphabet backwards and I thought that was really distinctive until I saw that TopazTook can do it too!
    I put 25 things about me on my "about" page, but I want to come up with something new and really unique. How 'bout this…
    When I first married my husband we lived on a 40,000 acre cattle ranch in Northern California. It was a 3 mile round trip to the mailbox. I still think that's kinda cool.
    Enjoyed my visit!
  17. Rebecca says:
    Super enjoyable post!
    RE: #1 – And you're NOT a Duggar?!
    RE: #4 – Who'da thunk off the top of their head that there really are 7 states that start with M? It is a valuable tool to know all 50 states in alphabetical order!
    RE: Your dress: I think your sleeves were recycled into my wedding gown.
    My funky fact: When I was 17, I had two car accidents on the same day!
  18. I too can name all 50 states in alphabetical order because of a song I learned in elementary school, the "Fifty Nifty United States" song. Do you know that one?
    I like the idea of your biblical places kid names. In my line of work, I met a young lady named Tekoa, and I love that because I've actually been there!
  19. OK, so I just saw that you answered the 50 Nifty question earlier in these comments. So glad to know that someone else knows this song too. My husband just looks at me strangely when I sing it!
  20. Tammy in ca says:
Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."
This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.
So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
