  1. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is the favorite spot of our kids…and we live in Phoenix! We took all 6 of them on two separate occasions…and on the second trip, we purchased a family membership. Back then, it was cheaper than getting in all 8 of us, we got to visit twice, and we got a wonderful newsletter mailed to us for the year after our visit. The funniest thing…a few years later, we took our youngest two kids to Sea World. I thought it would be a “wow” for them, but they complained that they would MUCH rather see the Monterey Aquarium than Sea World! And, to be honest, I had to agree.

  2. I have so many awesome memories of the Monterey Aquarium. From the times we would just walk by on trips to Monterey, to field trips with homeschool groups, to special trips with the grandparents and the culminating best one of all my honeymoon! What a great place for learning to happen at any age and your comments about the beauty inside and out is so true. Thanks for sharing.

  3. i love the monterey bay aquarium. my uncle used to be a volunteer there and my family had year long memberships when i was a kid. i most recently went just after they acquired kit the baby otter (who’s probably almost full size already)

  4. Seeing the “scenery” picture made me so homesick. We used to live up the road a bit from Monterey and it was an easy day trip to go. We’ve moved and it’s not so easy anymore, but, oh, the view. Lovely.

  5. On our trip to San Fran we stopped at the Monterey Aquarium. We had a great time and thought it was a great venue. If we ever make it back, we will visit again.

  6. That looks like great fun:-)

  7. Amazing pictures! Looks like lots of fun. I love aquariums!

  8. How fun!! We love aquariums!! Haven’t ever been to that one, though. On one of our massive road trips (that’s only the ones over 3500 miles!) we visited the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago and the Aquarium in the Mall of America. It never gets old! The Lord’s creativity is incredible. The variety of aquatic species is mind-boggling!

  9. We went to Monterey last year and didn’t make it to the Aquarium. We’ll have to put that on the list for next vacation. I have been to the Baltimore Aquarium. That was big but seems much smaller than Monterey’s. I hope we can go since we are studying Marine Bio this year!

  10. Haven’t ever been to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, but it looks like a great place to visit. I ran into a CD written for the Aquarium by Linda Arnold called Splash Zone ( It’s a great CD with catchy rhythms that teach about the creatures in the ocean. Now I want to go visit for real. Maybe when we hit the Pacific and the Redwoods.

  11. We love the Monterey Aquarium. We took our son when we were out in California visiting family last year. We live in Louisiana so don’t get there often. I highly recommend it! It was great and very educational even for my 3 year old.

  12. Michael Ezell says:

I work in the gift and books stores,I have been there for the last five year’s.And I go out of my way to make each and everyone I cross to take back with them, just more than gift’s.I try to give them something they will remember as a great time and to tell their friends,I love seeing the looks and the awe in the eye’s of tthe young one’s and I try to talk to them not a a grown-up.But as anyother kid and I welcome them to my playground and I don’t worry about any messes they may make,I want them to feel it’s their funhouse and I’m just as jazzed as they are. Sometimes more!!!!! So if any of you cross my way,I’m Mike and I’ll TREAT YOU AND YOUR YOUNG ONE’S AS NOT JUST GUEST,BUT FAMILY!!!!!! Looking forward to meet NEW FRIENDS!!!!!!

  13. My mother-in-law is a member and they have some fantastic specials for ‘members only’. One year we got to do an after-hours tour of the aquarium and ‘camped’ overnight in the jellyfish room!

  14. I’m a Monterey local and we visit the aquarium a good bit every year. We’re fortunate enough to have a volunteer as a neighbor, so we borrow her passes for free entry. :) The kids LOVE it there and it’s a lot of fun watching the kids enjoy the fish and other animals. The specialty exhibits change every so often and we got to see the jelly fish and seahorses (missed the great white shark :( ). Even months later, both kids remember seeing jellyfish, seahorses, otters and sharks at the aquarium.

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
