A Very Dora Birthday Cake

August 31, 2010

FishBaby turned two last week. Can you believe it?! She was born just a few months after LifeasMOM: The Blog and so many of you have known her even before she was born.
This little girl is a hoot, that is for sure. She looks a lot like her grandmother who passed away when she was [...]

4th of July Recipes and an Ultimate Recipe Swap

June 30, 2010

I’m not sure if it’s the school teacher genes in my DNA or what, but I get kinda giddy about color coding. Primary colors make me smile. I’ve even owned a snowman-embroidered cardigan in my time. And planning food to match a holiday? I’m all over that.
How can you celebrate the Fourth of July without [...]

Graduation Cupcakes: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough

May 17, 2010

Meet my little brother. I was 13, almost 14 years old when he was born, so in some ways I feel like he was my first kid. People did mistake him for mine. But, no, he’s just my bro.

Chocolate Butterhorns – Perfect for Freezing, Perfect for Anytime

April 28, 2010

So, my friend Crystal has this Butterhorn Recipe that is a great make-ahead recipe. The rolls freeze, thaw, rise, and bake deliciously. I made them during last month’s freezer cooking, and our family has enjoyed them immensely. If you make them just as Crystal directs, you will be quite pleased.

However, since I am a little bit lazy scared of my Kitchenaid Mixer AND a little bit of a sweet tooth, I decided to tweak the recipe a little bit. I adapted the dough recipe to fit a standard bread machine AND I added chocolate to the finished product.

Frugal Friday: Freezer Cooking on the Cheap

November 6, 2009

This week I spent a few days in the kitchen. I was on a mission to fill my freezer with homemade “convenience” items. Rather than start from scratch each night at dinnertime, I will be able to draw from a storehouse of “freezer meals.” Almost all of this month’s meals have been pre-prepped in some [...]
