Wondering how to put together a fun and festive birthday cake that doesn’t cost a fortune? You can totally do this on your own! I’m guest posting on DIY Birthday Cakes over at Getting Freedom.
Meet my little brother. I was 13, almost 14 years old when he was born, so in some ways I feel like he was my first kid. People did mistake him for mine. But, no, he’s just my bro.
Jace is a great guy: loves God, loves the outdoors, loves my kids. (And, yes, he’s single.)
My kids love to eat. And they love to cook. They also love to make some messes along the way. Recently, I came to terms with that cook-mess-eat reality. Afterall, I’m probably going to make a mess, too. So, I might as well say, “Yes!” and let them help. We can make memories and messes all at the same time. Oh, yes, yes, we can.
Even though I try to plan all sorts of fun family activities, the truth is that I often tell my kids, “No.” There are only so many hours in my day. Now’s the season for getting out and about. The weather is warming up. Spring fever has hit. And the outdoors beckons you to load up the family and head out for adventure.
But, do you ever find yourself…
at the beach or other fun locale, and the weather turns cold, and tshirts and shorts just won’t cut it?
on a family field trip at a location where budget-friendly meals are a foreign concept?
at the park for an impromptu outing and find that you have no balls or toys in the car?
on a road trip without sufficient activities for the kids to amuse themselves with?
on your way to a faraway special event only to find out that someone made it into the car without any shoes?
Ever since our days of traipsing through the South of France together, FishPapa and I have loved to travel and see new places. And that hasn’t changed since having children. Our luggage has just increased.
And, I guess, truth be told, we’ve always been budget travelers. When it was time to choose a honeymoon location, airfare to France was actually less expensive than Hawaii. How convenient! We flew across the Atlantic for about $200 roundtrip for each cheap seat!
