Camp Wannalaffalotta: Have Fun with Your Peeps This Summer

One of the best ways to celebrate lazy summer days is to host a summer camp for your kids. Yes, your own kids. You may think that it is smooth sailing, once school lets out. Au contraire. Unless you’re up for unlimited video games and TV watching, you’re going to need a plan.

(I say this all the time, don’t I?)

Have Bag, Will Travel (or Go to the Beach, or the Park, or on a Picnic)

Now’s the season for getting out and about. The weather is warming up. Spring fever has hit. And the outdoors beckons you to load up the family and head out for adventure.

But, do you ever find yourself…

at the beach or other fun locale, and the weather turns cold, and tshirts and shorts just won’t cut it?
on a family field trip at a location where budget-friendly meals are a foreign concept?
at the park for an impromptu outing and find that you have no balls or toys in the car?
on a road trip without sufficient activities for the kids to amuse themselves with?
on your way to a faraway special event only to find out that someone made it into the car without any shoes?

Grilled Turkey & Brie (Ultimate Recipe Swap: Quick Winter Dinners)

Wintertime calls for hot, filling meals that warm you up and keep you energized. And it seems that family life is super busy during winter as well. You know what that means. The family cook needs some quick, cozy menu ideas. At our house it might be beans and rice or a bowl of chili. […]

Slab Apple Pie – Perfect for Fall, Perfect for Freezing

I experimented with my traditional apple pie recipe recently by baking it into a 9×13-inch pan, thus the name, Slab Apple Pie. Homemade Pie Crust – A Finer Thing

Some members of the FishFam have distinctly different tastes than I do. Many prefer cake to pie. But, me? Mmmm. I’ll take pie anyday, savory like Chicken Pot Pie or sweet, like Cherry Pie. It seemed appropriate to give you the low-down on homemade pie crust, for several reasons: 1. It tastes better than store […]

Fall Traditions: How ‘Bout Them Apples?

Probably my very favorite part about fall (besides Thanksgiving) is the apples. There’s nothing like a cold, crisp, sweet, juicy apple to sink your teeth into. Yum! Years ago when I was a svelte, young mother of one, we lived on the Central Coast of California, close to the beach, yet cool enough in winter […]

Falling for Fun: 5 Great Read Alouds

When FishBoy12 was a wee lad, I invested a small fortune in Scholastic books. While it may not have been the wisest financial decision at the time, we have more than got our money’s worth out of this little library we built of great read-alouds. And some of the most well-loved in the bunch are […]

Preparing for Fall: Switching Out and Stocking Up!

Once school starts up again and the days shorten, my mind just starts to think about Fall and preparing for winter. Though I come from pioneer stock, I certainly don’t live on a farm, nor do I harvest anything from my own backyard. In fact, living again in Southern California, I don’t get to experience […]
