Over a year ago, I heard about this new thing called a vlog. (It’s video+blog, in case you weren’t sure.) And, though, I had no clue what I was doing, I decided to give vlogging a try.

This is one of the first vlogs I made: How to Make Mexican Rice. Despite my ignorance in film making, it’s been quite popular with over 15,500 views. Who knew?

Since that first amateur video, I’ve gone on to make several other amateur videos, on a range of scintillating topics.

If you’re in the market for a singing Christmas FishMouse, the contents of my linen closet, or all kinds of freezer cooking tutorials, then pop over to the LifeasMOM YouTube channel.

Subscribers get a little heads up on vlogs that may — or may not — get posted on this blog. So, if you’re into getting the inside scoop, well hit subscribe while you’re there.

So, do you VLOG? What are your thoughts on this other form of social media?

  1. I am *this* close to getting brave enough to vlog … but I’m not there yet 🙂

Maybe getting my feet wet with a vlog on Rockin Granola will happen first before Simple Kids LOL

:::: off to subscribe to you! 🙂

  2. My husband LOVES this kind of rice. I usually just use water but I think I will give the chicken stock a try. Also, when I make it, I throw in some diced onion when the rice is just almost brown enough. It really adds great flavor.

  3. I don’t like vlogs. I just don’t have time to sit and watch a video. I like to be able to quickly read something and then move on. If I have to take time to watch a video, I’m going to skip it.

    1. @Emily E, I agree with you, Emily. Especially at work which is where I view LifeAsMom and other great blogs. Video watching is blocked by company fire wall.

  4. I watched a bunch of your vlogs last night and LOVED them! Thanks for taking the time to do them.

  5. I love the idea of a Vlog but I hate wondering what’s in it. “watch to find out…” I’ll click through every few times to view it.

I appreciate the YouTube videos because they are the only kind I can view on my iPhone – easily – without leaving the site.

Cute hair in the Apple Pie vlog!!

  6. It sound like having the transcript would be a happy medium for everyone. Visual/auditory learners can watch the vlog, and others can just read the transcript.

Adding it to my to-dos. 🙂

  7. Thank you so much for this vlog! I am a visual learner and this vlog was SUCH a blessing. My husband and I do not get to go out by ourselves due to finances and lack of people to babysit – so I’m planning a “date-in” night and this Mexican rice is on the menu!!!
Thank you again! I am so grateful for your blog. It is such a blessing!!!!
