Christmas Stories (& A Giveaway from Candlewick Press)

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW OVER. CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS: rilyzmom@, KristyBartlett@, annwwins@

Books are beautiful at our house. Everyone, thankfully, loves to read. We have differing tastes, but we are all bookworms over here. Keeps us out of trouble.

And pulling out the Christmas books that have been in the garage for eleven months is great fun! This year, Candlewick Press added a few to our collection. And I love them!

New Christmas Releases

The Christmas Eve Ghost by Shirley Hughes is a poignant tale of a mysterious sound and a Protestant English widow befriended by Irish Catholic neighbors. The illustrations are fantastic, as they are with all this author’s books, and the message is beautiful.

Rosemary Wells is another favorite author of mine. In On the Blue Comet she tells the story of a boy separated from his dad during the depression. The older FishBoys enjoyed this tale of time  travel.

The Story of Christmas by Vivian French is a vivid retelling of the Biblical account. I love it when art represents Life in an accurate way.

Kate DiCamillo’s Great Joy is a wonderful story of compassion at giving to those who have less than us. It’s a great lesson in sharing with those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

This week three LifeasMOM readers will win a set of these books.
