Tonight we’re going to have friends over which is always a great way for us to unwind and start the weekend. We are blessed to count MoneySavingMom and MoneySavingMister as our pals. So they are going to head over in a few hours with their kiddos.

FishPapa and I are pretty social birds; talk, talk, talk. So an evening with friends is always refreshing to us. We’ve got some chicken and veggies to grill as well as pasta salad, bread, fruit, and ice cream sundaes and cones for dessert. The kids will play; the adults talk about everything under the sun; and before we know it, it will be late and way past bedtime. But, this was strategically planned as tomorrow is Saturday. Yippee!

Since I’m a homebody, I’ve always preferred to have others come to my house. It comes easily to me to open my home (and my messes) to friends. But, over the years, girlfriends have shared that it is hard for them to invite people over. They worry most about what to cook.

If this is the case for you, take heart. This doesn’t have to be difficult or intimidating. If they’re your friends, they don’t care about being impressed. Pick up some “take and bake pizzas,” a few bottles of pop, and some ice cream bars. Make it easy on yourself and just enjoy hanging out together. Make sure the kids have plenty of things to play with and adult supervision to referee the inevitable squabble that will occur. (We usually have the guys or the ladies take turns in the kid zone. You can still talk while the kids play.)

The more you do it, the easier it will get. Perhaps you can make it a once-a-month goal to have friends over. You’ll be making great memories with your kids and your pals.

The mushrooms were especially great. And oh that Dove icecream! Yum! 🙂

    Thanks for being our friends.

Oh, I wish we lived closer!

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
