I grew up in a valley on the outside edge of the Los Angeles Basin. Summers were extremely hot with temps reaching triple digits often. We didn’t have a pool, so we were always looking for creative ways to cool off. And one thing I always wanted to do as a kid was go to Raging Waters, a ginormous water park full of slides and all kinds of cool stuff.

Get it? Cool.

We’re going to go sometime in the next month. I imagine that they have all the latest and greatest when it comes to splashing about. Until I can report back, I have tickets to give away this weekend!

One LifeasMOM reader will win four tickets to Raging Waters, good for their San Dimas location only. THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATS TO THE WINNER: smawhiney@

When I was a child, I lived at the beach in Hawaii. That’s how I always stayed cool! But we always looked forward to going to California to visit cousins and go to the same water park as you! I haven’t been there in 15-16 years, it would be so fun to take our kids. Maybe a labor day road trip south!

  2. I keep cool by eating lots of ice cream!!

  3. My SIL lives in the LA area, so I’m sure they would love taking their kids to this!

When I need to cool off in a jiffy, I pour a cold drink and sit in front of the fan.

  4. I park myself in front of the swamp cooler on high 🙂

  5. Run through the sprinklers with my son!

  6. We put the sprinkler under the trampoline and jump!

  7. At summer camp in the Midwest we’d make a giant slip-in-slide out of rolls of plastic and suds it up with dawn, spending hours, sliding down the hill!
Now, I like to go to the beach, dip my feet in the water or sit inside with a big bowl of ice cream!

  8. I try to do all my outside stuff early in the morning or in the evening and stay inside during the hottest part of the day.

  9. shorts, tank tops and ice cream!

  10. Love to hang out at our neighborhood pool and enjoy the day with friends!

    Old school Otter Pops!

Definitely going to the beach. I live in LA now but sadly in the summers I really miss the Nova Scotian (Canada) beaches that I grew up going to. The water quality in LA isn’t the greatest and it takes so long to get to the beach because of traffic. Now I understand why everyone in LA has a pool :O). I’ve been looking into going to Raging Waters- it looks fun!

  13. I love going to the pool. And to water parks. We are new to SoCal so this would be awesome! My little ones love the water!

  14. Eating ice cream!

  15. We swim a lot!!!

  16. My favorite way to cool of in the summer is standing in the kiddie pool while my baby and I splash each other.

  17. I love to eat ice cream!

  18. Homemade Popsicles!

  19. Elizabeth says:

I sit next to the air conditioner and drink a cool drink to keep cool.

  20. Go to parks with spray decks. We have three less than 15 minutes away.

  21. We like to go to our city’s water “ponds”. It is a man-made natural looking stream that flows through about ten different pools with waterfalls, climbing rocks fountains and spray “geysers”. It ranges in depth from a few inches to about a foot. Kids of all ages (and parents) love it and it is free!

  22. Taking the kids to the gym…since it has a water slide & pool!

  23. Kris in SoCal says:

A quick splash with the hose! Or sometimes I get right in the kiddie pool with the kids!

  24. Going to the beach.

  25. Good ol’ fashioned squirt gun and water balloon fight with my hubby and 4 year old son. And these tickets would be awesome to win, since we’re moving to LA in 5 weeks!:)

  26. My favorite way to cool off is sitting in my garden sipping a cold glass of Good Earth ice tea while catching up reading my Sunset, Food and Wine and Better Homes and Gardens magazines! I get to enjoy birds, flowers, breezes and discover new recipe’s to try and places to go. Bliss!

  27. We ride our bikes to the beach to cool off!

  28. I cooled of by eating popsicles and shaved ice…..yum 🙂

  29. I stay inside!

  30. corrie R says:

Canon balls into any pool where we’re invited too!

  31. Susan Brenner says:

While on a roadtrip this summer to the midwest where every day was over 100 degrees, we stayed cool in the car( driving all those miles),with the air conditioner running! What a blessing that was!
We’re home again now, and we live close to Raging Waters. We haven’t been in years. This would be a fun way to cool off!

  32. we cool off by staying inside in the AC we live in the hot central valley
