Meal Planning: Favorite Fall Dinners

Fall begins this week. And while autumn in San Diego isn’t quite the same as it was in Kansas City, we’re still experiencing a change in weather, and I definitely notice the amount of daylight hours lessening. The nights are cooling off and it’s almost time to bust out the footed jammies. Almost.

I love this time of year! It conjures up such great memories of Friday night football games, cool walks along the street, fireplace smoke drifting about the neighborhood.

One of the best things about Fall is the food.

{You knew I would say that, didn’t you?}

We have some favorite dishes that I only prepare during the fall and winter. They hold a special place in our hearts when the days seem shorter and the evenings (read: the time between darkness and bedtime) seem much longer. Since I have most of the ingredients already, I decided that these meals would make up our menu plan this week. What a perfect fit!

Minestrone Soup and homemade foccacia
Macaroni and Cheese, steamed broccoli
Chicken Smothered in Onions*, mashed potatoes, green salad
Tomato and Brie Pasta*, green salad, garlic bread
Brats with Sauteed Peppers*, pasta salad
Beef Stew, fresh bread
Costco Pizza – for moving weekend

  1. Looks like a great week:-)

  2. That picture of the chicken makes my mouth water! Love the whole menu!

  3. I haven't quite been ready to give up summer for autumn just yet! I'm going to miss my farmers market and all that fresh bright produce!

    Fall is roasts, root vegetables and soups to me.

    The tomato and brie pasta sounds delicious! Thanks!

  4. I really like your "Good (& Cheap) Eats blog. Such a good idea, especially in this economy. Your Chicken in smothered onions with mashed potatoes recipe looks delicious. I noticed you didn't give a recipe for the mashed potatoes so I thought I would share mine with you. It uses cream cheese in the recipe. Who would have thought? Delicious! Just click on my name to see the recipe ;)
