Painted Tea Tins

This is an easy craft for children and adults, repurposing metal tea tins into cute, decorative containers.

Equipment

  • paint brushes
  • paint palettes can use disposable plates
  • water cups and water for changing paint colors
  • paper toweling for blotting brushes

Supplies
  

  • 1 metal tea tin
  • metal primer
  • acrylic paint

Instructions
 

  • Scuff up the tea tins with steel wool or sand paper. Wipe clean.
  • Prime the tins according to primer instructions. Allow to dry completely, up to 1 day.
  • Lay out the tins, palettes, cups of water, brushes, and paint on a covered work surface.
  • Leave time and space for your people to paint. Play music, have conversations.
  • Once the paint has dried, you can use the painted tin for decor or as a container for non-food items.

Notes

You can do this as a Thanksgiving activity, on Christmas, as an Easter craft, or during any Family Night. It’s a great Summer afternoon activity for the kids.
Consider making one for your Secret Santa and filling it with candy! Alternatively, fill it with coins and turn it into a cute money gift.
