Yes, it’s finally sweater weather! I bought this lovely green shawl collar cardigan for Bryan for his birthday last winter but he’s never worn it.
I decided I’d see how I liked it, and I kinda love it. I’m not sure he will get it back. I’m packing it for our road trip, so he might get a chance to try it on.
Yep, we’re hitting the road, just the two of us, heading north to see the Sacramento Fishers. I’ve been packed since Sunday afternoon.
I just knew the week would get away from me and I really wouldn’t want to pack on a Friday. Past Jessica was so right on this one. The time change often kicks my tail, even with the “fall back” and this year is no exception.
I am just tired all day long.

What I’m Learning
I did spend some time reading this week (more on this below) but one of the things that struck me is that our lives don’t follow typical story structure, you know the whole “exposition-inciting incident-rising action-climax-resolution” thing.
Instead life is a series of these peaks and valleys overlapping. One conflict may not resolve before another one starts.
Of course, we all know life doesn’t happen like it does in the books, but I just think that’s interesting. I was a lit major and yet, never considered that story is really just a snippet of a life.
Here’s what else I’ve been doing, eating, listening/watching, and/or reading this past week:

What I’ve Been Doing
Besides yawning? I’ve been trying to get my ducks in a row for the holidays, but I seem to be making slow progress.
I knew that time would pick up speed once November hit, and it has! Did you know Thanksgiving is only three weeks away?
I’m hoping that once the time change jet lag is past, I’ll feel a bit more with-it.
Isn’t this mug cute?! I didn’t realize how much I would like it until I added whipped cream to the hot cocoa. The gingerbread man is adorable.

What I’ve Been Eating
I found Raspberry Junket Danish Dessert on clearance last week so I bought some to try. I suspected it would be very much like jello and I was right.
I made little pots topped with raspberries, whipped cream, and ALL THE PRETZELS left from Halloween. We didn’t get a single kid come to the door!
So, we now have 58 little bags of pretzels to eat. Lol. I used two for Sunday Dinner Dessert.

What I’ve Been Listening/Watching
We’ve continued to watch Dept Q. It’s been really interesting. The writing is good, and it hasn’t gone sideways yet. That’s saying a lot these days.
We’ve watched four episodes and it’s definitely kept our interest.
Have you seen the social media video of the lady who got fed up with Disney+ constantly raising their rates? She went out and bought an old school TV, VCR, and even an 80s entertainment cabinet to store it all, along with the video tapes. I feel that so much.
I’ve been purchasing DVDs or Blu-rays of the movies the girls and I like to watch at Christmas so we can skip the commercials. They’re usually about $5 and since we can rewatch them year after year, it makes sense.
- The Family Man, starring Nicolas Cage
- While You Were Sleeping
- The Shop Around the Corner
- You’ve Got Mail
- Elf
- Charlie Brown Christmas
Have you got a must-watch holiday movie I should add to the collection?

What I’ve Been Reading
I’ve been plugging along with my Bible reading. It’s surprising how quickly 15 minutes a day adds up! I feel like I’m about 1/5 of the way done!
As mentioned, I did read a book this week, Feels Like Home by Courtney Walsh. And I’m so torn. I hope I don’t yuck on anyone’s yum with this mini review.
First, I have loved many of Courtney Walsh’s books; in fact, I’ve read some of them several times. So, it was a little disappointing to read this latest one.
| PROS | CONS |
| I love the Hart sisters. The first two books are exceptional (though now I wonder if I need to reread), and I love the characters. This is an offshoot of the third story. | The third Hart sister book wasn’t as good as the first two, probably because she worked on many other projects in between them. |
| I like this new set of characters a lot. I think she excels in character development. | Walsh’s earlier books are much more faith-filled. She has attributed the change to her personal life, and I can’t help but wonder if her faith in God is weakening. She misuses the term grace in this book incredibly so, not enough to make me quit reading, but enough to detract. |
| The repairing of an old special friendship is sweet, and friends to lovers is a sweet trope. | A lot of this relationship feels like echos of the main characters in her book, Can’t Help Falling, from 2023. The characters seem very similar, too. |
| It’s a closed-door, clean romance. | There’s a fair amount of objectification from the POV of the female characters toward the MCC. I’m not a fan. |

Okay, friend, that’s it for me. Leave a comment and let’s chat!
