You would laugh. I just noticed that I put the date on this post as December 30. How’s that for jumping the gun?

I’ll blame it on just having finished writing this post –> Holiday Pre-Gaming: What I’m Doing & What I’ve Bought.

Anywho, I’m trying to do a lot of things these days and not doing any of them too tremendously well. I even forgot to go to the eye doctor yesterday. Who does that?

So, besides forgetting things and getting the day and month wrong (chomps a creatine tablet)… I got my hair trimmed. Earth-shattering news, I know. I didn’t think it needed it and then afterward, I realized it very much did.

And yes, it has been warm enough to walk around town with bare shoulders. The temps are dipping, but basically staying between 50s and 70s around the clock.

Here’s what else I’ve been doing, eating, listening/watching, and/or reading this past week:

acorns on the tree.

What I’ve Been Learning

I love crunching the acorns underfoot when we go for walks, but until recently, I’d never looked up to see what they look like on the tree. I think most of the oaks in my past were very tall. The ones in our neighborhood are not, and so to see these clusters of acorns was really fascinating.

I had no idea they grew like that!

What I’ve Been Doing

Honestly? I’ve been shopping. Aren’t these mugs cute?!

I’ve gone on little splurges at Costco, Kohls, Trader Joe’s, Target (peep what I bought here!), and even Pottery Barn. Most of it is in anticipation of the holidays. None of it is entirely extravagant.

But, it probably needs to slow the heck down now. If you read this post, you know I still have a lot of work to do. Thankfully, the Christmas bucket was topped up before I started.

What I’ve Been Eating

This week Mr 25 has been out of town so it’s been just me at home for most of the days. I’ve taken to eating the same sandwich: Hot Italian Bomba Sauce with turkey on ciabatta. The first day I added cheese and salami, and then resorted to just turkey.

Better for my cholesterol. 😜

Many nights it’s been just me and Bryan so I’ve taken it easy for dinner prep, too.

One night Miss 18 requested breakfast for dinner, and since I’d just watched this reel, I said yes. Another night we had a leftover pizza I had frozen from some random Friday. Last night I made a rendition of this soup.

It’s been very chill, but I like to think of that as the calm before the storm.

What I’ve Been Listening/Watching

  • Allison and I did a holiday-themed Q&R. You can listen here.
  • I thought the latest episode of What Have You was excellent.
  • Bryan and I discovered Dept Q. We are only a couple episodes in, but really enjoy it.

And yet again, I have fallen off the reading wagon, so nothing to report there other than Bible study — which is still pretty good. I’m closing in on the end of Joshua.

Whoever said life gets easier with older kids was wrong. It gets better, richer, and more amazing as you get to know your kids and the young adults they become. But, it doesn’t get “easier”, at least not in terms of time constraints and responsibilities. Sure, I no longer change diapers or prepare every bite…

Hello! Are you in summer mode yet? For me summer is a great big reset, for home, time management, and my regular routines. I’m working on it, but not quite there. In fact, this week was more about self care than anything else. I tried to sleep, read, clean my bedroom, and take things slower…

Yep, I’m typing you this little missive from Japan, from a fairly decent budget hotel located on the edge of the Osaka slums. This is the first time in two weeks when I feel like the reviewers on Booking.com did me dirty. Yes, there’s a “4-star” hotel across the street as well as a very…
