This week’s ramble will be short and sweet as it’s already 4 pm and there’s pizza to be made. Normally, I have time on Thursday evening or Friday morning to tap this out, but this week did not obey.

It started strong with a fun Sunday of church, tacos out, and hanging with my hubby, but by 24 hours later I could tell I was catching the Spanish Flu, or whatever it is that the boys brought home from Spain. (I think it’s just a bad cold.)

I’m functional today, but not 💯. And due to family needs, my own Friday plans got ditched for the team. Such is family life!

I came upstairs to grab my meal planning notebook so I can order a grocery pick up for tomorrow and then remembered I hadn’t rambled. So here we are.

Here’s what else I’ve been doing, eating, listening/watching, and/or reading this past week:

What I’m Learning

I continue to learn that life is about managing expectations. So often we do not get our own way and our plans do not obey.

All summer I’ve had a free and easy schedule with zero obligations. This week, of all weeks to get sick, I had multiple things to leave the house for, most of which I missed. And that hit hard.

I missed the first sessions of BOTH my Bible studies which feels really wrong! 😜 And several errands got skipped that would have made life go a little more smoothly. I also didn’t love dropping 50 bucks on cold medicines because I was too sick and tired to shop for a sale and we had run out.

I knew I had hit a breaking point when I was ready to cry over the possibility of missing my hair appointment. (I didn’t.)

Life doesn’t obey. But part of our obedience can be presented in how we manage our emotions when it doesn’t.

What I’ve Been Doing

While I was not the picture perfect Holly Hobbie, I did get some things done, like make Bryan another round of burritos and prep dinner every night. It helped that I had done such a thorough meal plan last week.

I thought maybe I posted about that already, but looking at last week’s post, I guess I didn’t. Anyway, I planned all of September’s meals and that has been super helpful.

What I’ve Been Eating

Besides our regular meal plans, I’ve been enjoying Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal and endless cups of Medicine Ball Tea. I froze the oatmeal in 1/2 cup portions so it’s been easy to heat up in the mornings and does that resistant starch thing that Kelly told me about awhile ago.

The oatmeal is particularly good sprinkled with brown sugar and doused in Nutpods Half and Half.

What I’ve Been Listening/Watching

Since we don’t have any channels, I’ve succumbed to the “live” New Tricks/Silent Witness channel on Amazon. I thought I had seen all the episodes years ago, but it turns out I don’t remember them or I missed them for some reason.

Surprisingly, I have not just vegged on videos even while sick, so I think that’s a good thing.

What I’ve Been Reading

I didn’t do any binge-reading this week, more like puttered around the house. Most days I got my steps!

But, I did round out the month having beaten my goal. I wanted to read ten books and ended up finishing ELEVEN. So that’s cool.

My total is now 56 books for the year!

I’ve got several in the queue, but haven’t had the focus to just read. I’m doing two Bible studies this fall, so I can tell that it’s going to be challenging to stay on top of each.

Okay, that’s it for me. Happy to be in the land of the living, even if I don’t have all my ducks in a row. How are you?

How was your week?

The weekly ramble, where I blog like it’s 2004. Our trip to Santa Barbara earlier in the week couldn’t have been better. We had practically perfect weather — during the day. Nights and mornings I froze my tail off, so you hardy-wintry folk know that there was a slight nip in the air. While we…
