Here’s where I ramble about the important and the mundane of every day life. This week let’s chat heat waves, grounding, fast food, and what’s eating my basil.

Hello, Hi, How are you? We are sweating to the oldies around here…. not because of any particular exercise routine, just that it’s hot and I like classic music.

SoCal is on excessive heat warning this weekend which means it must be September! Oy. In case you didn’t know, this is when San Diego summer starts.

Originally, I thought it was the heat/neglect that got the basil plant, but on closer inspection, I see that something is eating the leaves. We’ve had a watchdog Dragon Fly, bless him, in the backyard who I think is just eating mosquitos.

What do you think is eating the basil?

The plus side of this extreme heat is that we get spectacular skies, in the morning and the evening, so I’m trying to find the good amid the unpleasant.

sunset on the beach.

Lately, Bryan and I have been getting fast food to eat at the beach on date night. It’s a little bit cheaper than other options, and we can walk on solid ground.

It’s only recent that I heard about the concept of grounding. Like as a health term, not just one to prevent electrocution. My husband apparently had been au courant for years.

Anywho… when we were talking about it, we realized that there is only one spot on our entire property that isn’t concrete, a small patch of grass in the front yard. The beach is a more pleasant place for grounding, if that’s really a thing. I dunno. But, interesting!

The evening at the beach was lovely. My dinner, unfortunately, was not. As I mentioned last week, I am a fan of the Chick-fil-A Honey Pepper Pimiento Chicken Sandwich.

This week I decided to splurge both cash and calories on date night and enjoy it again. I know I said I would do it just once this season, but my taste buds had other ideas.

We went to a newer CFA, one closer to the beach, and were dramatically underwhelmed. It didn’t have the comfortable feel that the other locations have, and even though there didn’t seem to be a crowd, the wait was long for our mobile order.

To add insult to injury, my sandwich was missing the Honey and the Pimiento (Cheese)! For some reason a few slices of jalapeño pepper made it on there, but nothing else. What a disappointment!

I’m pleased to report though, after fiddling with the app, making a phone call, and wading through a fairly complex customer service labyrinth, the CFA location made it right and sent me an in-app coupon to get another sandwich as well as a breakfast and a dessert.

Mischief managed.

Speaking of mischief…. the fridge that came with the house died this week, so that was another fun mess to sort. Rather than repair it, they are purchasing a replacement. So, I’m getting my steps each day between the garage fridge and the kitchen.

I think we’re snacking a lot less now! lol

Those are the minutiae of my week. As far as big picture stuff, I have much swirling around in my head.

  • simplifying the Good Cheap Eats System so that it’s easier for folks to learn and make their own.
  • rereading Be Your Future Self Now and working through some more things in my head.
  • wrestling with my mistakes (past and present) and why I get obsessive about them. It’s really annoying, so I’d like to figure it out and maybe learn how to let things go.
  • dealing with the insurance company of a driver that hit my van last month. (No one was hurt!) The other company is obscure and not quick to deal with things. Geico had it handled within 48 hours, but since we don’t have collision, it’s on the other company to handle the repairs.
  • trying to figure out the finances now that my income is down and expenses are up.
  • working to be satisfied that enough is good.
graphic of fall trees and Prov 30 with saying, enough is good.

You know if I can write a page about my CFA experience, then I can write reams about each of these bigger things. But, I’ll spare you.

Though, I believe my joy in Proverbs 30 and the concept of enough is good is worthy of discussion. If my income is anything to go by, God is showing me what enough is!

To that end, I’m trying to get my eyes more in the Word and off myself. I’ve been doing the Daily Prayer Project this summer, and Community Bible Study starts this week which I’m excited about. Hoping those will be good tools to help me keep my eyes in the right place.

I shall leave you with my photo entitled, “When a Flower Loses Her #$%&.” Don’t we all feel like this flower, sometimes?
