I hope that you had a wonderful Christmas weekend! For that matter, I hope that the entire season was one of resting and rejoicing for you.
While I didn’t do all the things that I had hoped to do (we never did go “light looking”), we did have a wonderful season and are just now enjoying the start of our winter break, taking some days off school while hubs is home from work. We’ve got a small road trip planned as well as some staycation-type activities.
And then, we always make sure to be home in time for New Year’s Eve. We’re not ones to travel much ON holidays. We prefer to stay home, be cozy, and avoid the traffic. Over the years, we’ve developed some simple, yet fun traditions for celebrating the new year with our kids.
(We’re also not those folks who ring in the new year in dress tails and high heels. We’ve always been homebodies, with kids and without.)

Just like your family, we look forward to some time together between now and New Year’s for a staycation.
We are homebodies too! We have Chili and a cheese and cracker tray for supper. Then we watch a DVD and are in bed before the stroke of 12!! Glad you had a wonderful Christmas with your family.

WOW! Thanks for the FREE download! I can’t wait to read through it. The first scan looked great! We’re like you in that we stay home on New year’s eve keeping simple and cozy. A nice fire, something warm to eat and a couple of movies. Nowadays it’s hard to stay up until midnight, so we celebrate with an earlier time zone.

I am hosting a playdate for our mommy group (and 1 Daddy will be joining us) for a Happy Noon Year party where were are starting at 10:30 here with brunch style foods, crafts, games, etc and getting ready for the big countdown to noon. Thanks for the booklet! We celebrate with the kids at home, in pajamas, with breakfast for dinner, Wii games, and crackers and poppers. We learned the hard way one year that Silly String and carpet are not a good combination;)
Thanks for the booklet. There are a lot of great ideas. The last two years I have compiled our pictures and videos into a Year in Review DVD to give as a Christmas present to relatives. This year we are far from family and will have a quiet evening at home, so I think it will be great opportunity to watch those ourselves!
On New Year’s eve we go to sleep at our regular bedtimes. On New Year’s Day, while everyone else is sleeping in, we go to a zoo or somewhere similar for a family day. We usually have the place to ourselves until after lunch time. It’s a great way to kick off the new year feeling fantastic and being together.
I have just downloaded your free booklet – thanks Jessica. I have not started to think much about new year celebrations yet – this will get me going! Have planned Epiphany though – we are going geo caching which I hope will keep my boys interested.

I’m so glad to learn I’m not the only one who doesn’t ‘go glam’ for NYE. We’ve started a tradition of fondue and a favorite family flick, then off to bed!
Thank you so much for this!! Our second baby is just 2 months old, and I’m not sure what New Year’s will look like this year… probably not staying up til midnight! This gives me some great ideas for family fun.
