She was freaking out on the inside. You can kinda see it in the eyes.
Not because she was turning 35, but because she finally realized her finances were not what they should have been. Yikes. Were they ever in the wrong direction!
After six weeks without a paycheck, she and her husband decided to make some serious changes. When you have five kids (with more on the way?) you need to mitigate risk.
And she and her man had been too risky. As a SAHM of five littles, her best battleground was the kitchen. So she suited up.
Imagine this scene:
She vowed not to spend another dime unless it was truly necessary. Instead, she foraged in the pantry and fed her family with what she found.
That first month she saved $600 which is like 900 in today’s money. The battle was long, but they came through victorious in the end, paying off 60k over the course of an economic recession.
That girl is me. A different version of me, but me. One who had to learn a lot really fast. I think back on that time and am so glad we decided to suit up and go to battle.
Changing how I shopped and cooked made a huge difference in the outcome of our war on debt. I couldn’t control the financial world, but I got to choose went in that Costco-size shopping cart.
All the lessons I learned, like how to make something from practically nothing? How to feed a family on a very tight budget but still eat like kings? How to maximize every minute as well as every dollar?
I wrote those all down and put them in this:
It’s basically all the things I would tell my past self so she could save money FAST….
… packaged in an easy-to-digest format because life is already full!
