FREE Paper and Pencil Game Book (Frugal Friday)

Looking for an easy homemade gift to give to the children in your life? Take them on a trip back in time with this free printable paper and pencil game book.

FREE Paper and Pencil Game Book (printable)

Years ago money was extremely tight. Wisdom said that I couldn’t spend a lot of money on Christmas gifts. But, I so wanted to! Wisdom got her way though, and what resulted was a years long quest for homemade, budget-friendly gifts to give to family and friends at the holidays.

This paper and pencil game book was one of those gifts. It’s a far cry from today’s electronic gadgets, but in some ways, that is quite refreshing. You can play a number of games with only paper and a pencil. Believe it or not, Battleship even had its beginnings as a paper game! This is the perfect game to pack for car rides, the boring afternoon with relatives, or when the power has run out on the favorite electronic gadget.

And sometimes, unplugging is just a little more peaceful!

FREE Printable Game Booklet

You ca n download the booklet for FREE. Print it out on back to back pages, fold and secure with staples or ribbon. Wrap it up with a pack of pencils for a fun gift on the go. The pages will look wonky to the naked eye, but if printed back to back, in order, they should fold up just right.

(An easier, though slightly more expensive, option is to have your local copy shop print and staple the booklet for you. That’s what I did many moons ago.)

  1. Such a great idea! This year, we’re using our stash that I was purchasing from rummage sales during the summer to help us save money at Christmas time. We still have more to buy, but that helped A LOT! Another thing we’ve been doing is lots of crafts for fun, inexpensive activities to keep us in the Christmas spirit! My blog is full of my children’s craftiness right now! They have absolutely loved it!

  2. I have so many happy memories of playing pencil and paper games with my siblings. There’s something special about them.

  3. I am now showing my age – I remember playing these games with my mom in the car (and at church) when I was little. It makes me want to go on vacation with her again!

Thank you for this. I think I will print it and put it under the tree for me. :)

  4. This is wonderful! God bless you for your generous heart!

  5. Thanks for the free download…great idea! :)

  6. What a fun idea! I had totally forgotten about Pig in the Pen. I used to play that all the time as a kid. I used the Money Box idea as a gift for my nephew once and he loved it!

  7. Good Morning. I am sharing a fun muffin recipe using raw millet. Not only is the texture a delightful surprise but these muffins are actually super nutritious.

  8. Awesome printable! Is there a way to only get the Tic Tac Toe pages? My daughter is in Kindergarten and this would be a great gift to add to the Christmas Goody bags.

  9. Jessica Fisher says:

Depending on your computer’s operating system, you should be able to use the snippet tool to cut and paste that one page. Otherwise, you could print that single page several times. Unfortunately, there would be some waste if you don’t want what’s on the other side.

  10. I think this is a perfect gift for some of my pen pal friends. Got some cute Christmas pencils from Walgreens that I can send with them. Thanks!!!

  11. Thank you for sharing the pencil and paper book. My son will enjoy it.

  12. That’s such a cute idea ;) :) I would totally go for something like this. Love and hugs from the ocean shores of Monterey, Heather :)

  13. This is wonderful! Oh yes, oh yes! I so want to do this book. : )

I made a game last year, it’s the one where everyone passes a paper and draws an illustration to illustrate a starting phrase. A bit like the old game “gossip” but on paper. We have laughed and laughed, and all you need is paper to fold and pass around and pencils or pens. Wonderful fun. I wish I could remember the name of the store-bought version but some of you may know. It is a hilarious game and some of the end pictures are worthy of hanging on the fridge they are so funny!

I agree, the old fashioned unpugged games are so much better and we feel so much better doing something like that. So glad to see moms not caving. Yay!

    Blessings! ~Amelia
