There are plenty of commercial Easter candies to choose from, but in my experience making your own chocolate covered marshmallow eggs for Easter is way more fun. And I’m pretty sure all my kids would agree.
We first made these fun marshmallow Easter eggs back in 2013 when most of my kids were 12 and under. I made them again last week and they disappeared in a flash!
I guess we’ll have to make another batch before Easter!
Why Make Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs
It’s easy. If you’re looking for a fun activity to do with the kdis over Easter break, this is it. This treat/craft is easy and cheap, depending on how elaborate you want to get and what ingredients you have on hand.
It’s fun. The kids and I had a blast making these together. We each got creative in our own ways. Hand a kid a bottle of sprinkles and you know someone is gonna have fun.
One little girl was generous in her sprinkling. One young man created religious art by creating mosaic crosses with round flat sprinkles. Another just wanted to know when he could eat! Several of us really enjoyed making a marbled effect with the two colors of chocolate.
There’s no end to the creativity in making your own Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Eggs!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need:

egg-shaped marshmallows – You can make homemade marshmallows and cut them into egg shapes. There are also a few different commercial options. Campfire makes Egg-Swirlers that are often available at ALDI and other retailers in advance of Easter. And this year, Trader Joe’s sells 3-packs of egg-shaped marshmallows that are akin to Peeps.
melting chocolate – You can make my homemade magic shell recipe or simply purchase candy melts. You can use dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or white chocolate for your chocolate marshmallow eggs. I bought nut-safe Ghirardelli melting wafers at Target.
sprinkles – pastel colored sprinkles are fun to add to the chocolate before it sets. We were very pleased to see that Target now sells a nut-safe Easter sprinkle mix.
skewers or popsicle sticks – Having a skewer helps with dipping the marshmallows in chocolate without smearing it.

Instructions
Line a work surface with parchment paper.
Place the candy melts in a microwave-safe glass dish and heat until melted, according to package directions. Blend well.
Skewer a marshmallow egg and dip it into the melted chocolate and place on parchment paper. Sprinkle with colored sprinkles. Place on the parchment paper to set.
You can make “egg pops” by serving with the stick or remove them once the chocolate has set.
Depending on room temperature, you may want to chill these in the refrigerator to help the chocolate set.

We love making these for a fun Easter craft!
Thanks so much for posting this today! I was babysitting a friends children tonight and they, along with my own kids, had fun making these. Found the egg shaped marshmallows at WalMart but it would totally work with regular marshmallows.
Yes, standard marshmallows work, too. We’ve done that at Christmas.
I do have regular marshmallows. …may just have to do it w the regular ones 🙂
These look like fun and tasty too! I’m thinking that this will be a great activity for the kids, thanks so much for sharing;)
I have not seen these in the stores, I will be looking for them today. My grand kids love marshmallows so this would be great for them. Thanks for another great affordable project.
