Plan a Staycation & Save Money

Plan a staycation to save the money and hassle involved in going out of town. Play the tourist in your own town.

Last year we had the opportunity to have a hotel staycation, just a 20 minute drive from our house. We joined the best of both worlds: convenience and familiarity of being in our hometown with the luxury of having someone else make the bed. On other holidays from work and school, we’ve played the tourist without having the hassle to pack everyone up.

Do you know how long it takes to pack EIGHT people for a vacation or even an overnighter?! We’ve started to take daytrips to my parents instead of staying over. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still going to France next year with all my people.

But, I’m also being honest that it’s so much easier to tuck everyone into his own bed after a full day of activity.

Yesterday over on Good Cheap Eats I shared some tips and tricks for staycationing in general as well as restaurant recs for San Diego in specific. Here on Life as MOM I posted fun, practically free things to do in San Diego.

If you’re serious about staying home but truly enjoying some time off, don’t forget to read these posts:

And then check out these staycation ideas from around the country. Wondering what you can do in Baltimore? Looking for some fun in Boston? Spending the summer at home in Helena? Well, we’ve got you covered.

Staycations are great! I see my city in the bunch (Asheville, NC) and since we *just* moved here in December I still feel a bit like a tourist. Planning on trying out some new restaurants and climbing a mountain or two this summer.

  2. Do you know any Canadian bloggers? We moved to Calgary, Alberta from Oregon two years ago, but this is the first year we will be here for the summer. And we have family coming! :) I know of several paid places we want to go, but I’d love to find some free spots.

That said, we may hit San Diego next spring break, so I know where to look for ideas!

    Love your blog!

Thanks so much for participating in this conversation about "a mom's life."

This is a place where moms can be themselves. Remember that each mother's path looks a little different. Please keep your comments respectful and kind. Reasonable minds will disagree in a nice way.

So let's talk about it, using "our big girl words."
